Ironic that this registration is aimed at people with cell phones but you can't accurately enter your information if you only have a cell phone. I only have a cell phone so that's the only number available to reach me but I can only enter the number once. The "Residence Phone" field is required so I have to put something there. If I put my cell phone number there, I can't enter my cell phone number in the "Cell 1" field. So I don't know if I'll get a call because my cell phone number is listed as my Residence Phone.

So you put your cell where it asks for resident number and then leave the other fields blank....

On the SB Sheriff's site, it's "Residence phone", not "resident phone". It implies a phone that is tied to the residence. And that implies a land line. If one were expected to put a cell number there, the next two fields should be Cell 2 and Cell 3, not Cell 1 and Cell 2. The fact that the next two fields are Cell 1 and Cell 2 seems to support my belief that the first field is for land lines. If that's correct and the "residence phone" field is for land lines, it's quite possible that the field is ignored when importing new numbers. There would be no reason to attempt to add land lines to the reverse-911 system because they're already in the list. It's poorly designed. One shouldn't have to guess or assume to register their cell phone(s) in the reverse-911 system.

338369 - That is (enter broken record) because you DIDN'T follow instructions. It clearly states that your email address is your user name. You cannot change that.

338392 - Well then, occasionally one needs to be a little smarter than the person who designed the website. Which clearly most of the people on this thread are not.

396, you just don't get it. You're making assumptions about how the data is being used. Why would you assume that the people using the data are any smarter than the people who made the form? Do you know what happens when you assume? You're making excuses for a problem that shouldn't exist. There's no legitimate reason for there to be any guessing about how to properly enter information on the form. Nobody should have to figure out how to make it work.

338422 - I guess you live in a perfect world where everything is black and white and laid out for you like a red carpet so that you need to exercise the fewest brain cells possible. Well, the rest of us live in the REAL world. It's an imperfect world. One where website developers sometimes make mistakes. As in this case. My point is that anyone with internet experience an IQ above cabbage should have been able to figure out that if they do not have a home phone then they should put their cell phone in the *required* resident phone field. And the rest of the confusion displayed here is simply a function of how poorly people followed instructions.

I'm just stunned that people are defending poor design. It baffles me. Why on earth would you be defending something that can and should be fixed?

338459 - Who is defending poor design? Sounds like you are defending people who can't follow instructions and can't muddle through a poorly designed website form. You should be directing your complaints and suggestions for improvement to the County.
