Great shots of a bee I have not seen before. Thank you.

Sometimes you just have to take the damage in the cause of not overreacting. Replacing a fence post from time to time is not an unmanageable situation. It looks like these bees live in an ornamental log. Really the outdoor wear and tear we experience from all causes in Santa Barbara is so minor compared to what people deal with back east, in the desert, the north coast... We have had one or two carpenter bees hanging around our back fence for years, and they look fabulous on the day lilies when they're in bloom. Real garden art. I like the foam insulation idea.

Such cool photos! I agree, the female on the leaf needs to go to a competition or a vetted show. I can see it on the cover of N. Geographic.

Great pics. Pretty good story. Needs a new ending. Squash the damned things before they multiply! They create an obscene amount of damage.

Award winning photos. The last photo gave me my first urge ever to hug a bee. You guys with your photos of close ups of bees, spiders and bugs...just amazing.

I welcome any bees in our garden except for Carpenter bees. They bore into unprotected wood and can be very destructive. One year, they destroyed some railing on our deck. I learned from another Edhatter that foam insulation can be used to fill the cavities the Carpeneter bees create.

cool pictures. Too bad the carpentry they do is more like demolition than carpentry.
