Another great reason for picking up after your dog is to reduce the spread of diseases such as Parvo. Seems like all the cases we hear about these days are up in Santa Maria area. What is different up there? Maybe dog non-profits could do targeted outreach and education in that area? Make sure materials are bi-lingual? Parvo is a nasty disease- you really don't want your dog to get it.
