Maybe City Hall can help with this?

550, you know City Hall is a representation of the people, right? And they spend the people's money, as in you and I and everyone else? That is the last thing we need - giving away taxpayer money instead of letting individual taxpayers decide for themselves. Charities are great, but requiring a donation by every taxpayer in SB is not.

We only have 100-150k people in the So Coast... that's a lot of turkeys for such a small population. Do we really have 5-15% of our population in such dire poverty that they cannot afford a TG dinner?

Maybe they should turn off their cable and lose their iPhones...

Besides, most of the true poor are immigrants who neither celebrate TG or care to assimilate into American culture.

Think of the power it takes to cook 2,500 turkeys. Most rental properties have electric stoves.

I donate a turkey but I take it to the Rescue Mission where for sure it is used for the local, down and out poor.

I'd donate to a kitchen where people go to eat the dinner but frankly, if you can't afford one then you just don't get one. I can't afford a new car so I don't get one.

Maybe it will take a child to ask a parent "Why don't we have a Turkey for Thanksgiving?" to put them in gear to find a way.

Yeah, screw charity. What's the point of giving stuff away anyway? If they can't earn it for themselves they should just wallow in their poor person muck until they can figure out a way to not be poor anymore, right? Stupid poor people, expecting people to be decent and giving instead of cold and selfish.

Good grief I can't believe you people! The true colors of the edhat demographic are really being shown here. I hope you all some day feel the pain of being financially stressed. Don't count on me to come help you out either.

Actually, I cannot afford a turkey this year. I won't be buying one and I don't expect anyone else to buy one for me.

I totally agree with the comments about "Why do we need to give these families turkeys?"

How about if they stop having babies if they can't afford to have kids? How about disconnecting the cable if they can't afford food??

Better yet, if they need food - why are you increasing the need for factory farms by giving them turkeys? Because they WANT a turkey? Heck, I want a new car, but can't afford it - and I don't expect a handout.

If they REALLY need food, give them veggies and tofu.

Yes, because no one in poverty has unexpectedly lost their job and couldn't find a comparable wage to sustain themselves under new employment, never had a loved one suffer a terminal or survivable yet expensive to treat illness, never had the primary breadwinner of their family die unexpectedly, aren't crushed with college debt, and are never disabled or elderly. Nope! It's obviously because they have cable TV, iPhones, and too many babies. So no kindness for them, I suppose.

For this holiday season I'm sure some of you would love a new car, but I'll be hoping you're given a little empathy instead.
