Wow! How amazing! Super clear and so great to see there are still sharks in our waters. And a Peregrine too! Apparently, a 2-foot leopard shark fell out of the sky (a bird's talons, most likely) onto a golf course in San Juan Capistrano this weekend. The staff returned it to the ocean nearby.

While great whites get the most publicity, I understand a leopard shark can badly bite a human, also.

Super cool. Thanks for sharing such great pictures! :) I noticed the water was particularly warm yesterday. I wonder if that has anything to do with their presence or if it's just that the water was so clear you could see them this time.

Warm water is usually clearer, so that would make sense we would see them. They are more common in the nearer shallow coastal waters. Maybe there was some good eats nearby. I've snorkelled with them off Catalina and they were oblivious to our presence. Their mouths are well under and back from their snout so bites are probably less likely than with other species.... unless you step on one or it catches you by the toe swimming over your foot. :)

Fantastic series of shots, thanks for sharing! Though I wasn't always certain what I was looking at. I like captions when I don't know stuff. I too read the story of the Leopard shark falling from the sky onto the San Juan Cap golf course. Glad they got him back to his element so quickly.

If you want to do something cool, go to La Jolla Shores in late summer, where leopard sharks hang out in the surf zone. You can swim with them. They aren't large enough to do damage to a human and I've never heard of anyone being bitten by them. Thanks for the photos.

I've never seen anything in the water from the Wilcox - that must've been amazingly clear water, and you have a great telephoto lens! Thank you for sharing.

Gorgeous pics. A leopard shark bit off my co-workers toe. But he was swimming near coral and believes that he may have encroached on it's territory.

Leopard sharks are all over CA. They look scary but are not as far as ever hearing about any attacks. I swam twice yesterday 11am hendries and 1 pm shoreline park. The water is warmer than a few days back. I'm boing in for a five minute dunk while this summer never ends..... I often take pictures from the Wilcox and I haven't seen anything this nice from my efforts. Good Shots!
