Incredibly sad, RIP. And best to the canine companion he loved so much, too.

I would like to express my deep condolences to his family and friends. Sometimes the world doesn't make sense. To them I would like to say that you have so many people out here that you may not be aware of because we don't know how to reach out to touch your family, but we care and wish for you to know you aren't alone.

So very sad for his family. A neighbor was killed by a train, also trying to save his dog, both were hit. Same accident for a man up by Padero Lane. As much as we love our pets, not worth our lives. RIP to a very good man.

Flicka, if we have put our pets into harm's way by using a train track as an exercise area, then it is our responsibility to save them from the train. And if the worst happens, then it is also prudent to make sure you have found someone to take care of them and provided finances for this if you can. I volunteer at a shelter and the saddest cases are the dogs that end up in the shelter after their companion dies. They suffer from the loss, and then the stress of the shelter. I know someone that was hit on the tracks by a train coming from behind and he never heard it coming. Something to think about if you are looking at walking along a train track.

I know him too. Only man to stop a train with his arse and live to tell the tale. I still don't "get" or understand how it could happen. Love ya, busted up buddy.

723, My neighbor wasn't excercising his dog on the tracks. He was coming back from the beach and crossing the track when the dog had a convultion (an ongoing problem, dog was on medication). He was trying to get it off while the engineer was blowing his whistle at him. Very sad. If the dogs were leashed, no problem for the owners having train accidents.
