This Google Alert site seems to be indicating a tsunami warning that includes Santa Barbara for 12:22 AM (Sunday). As of now, there does not seem an alert from the county, so this Google Alert may just be a precaution. If anything makes it this far south it will probably not be noticeably and measured at less than 2 inches

Last time one of those little ones flowed thru here people on the beach had an early wake up call I'd hate to be passed out there on the beach not knowing what might be comming.

I've looked on several news sites, and googled, and did not see anything that listed Santa Barbara, or even Central or Southern California. What I've read talks about Canada, Washington, Oregon, and some Northern California areas. Hopefully none of these really materialize.

The current maps I just saw on Google show tsunami warnings all the way down Baja. I did not see predictions of how much or when. The news reports are showing lots of 4 pointer aftershocks and a 5.3. I haven't been able to make contact with my friend who lives in Blaine, WA, just at the border to CA above Bellingham, WA. Her phone appears to be nonfunctional and she hasn't posted on Facebook. Time will tell!

Heck of a quake, with apparently little damage. It was a 7.7! Three cheers for quakes in rural and lightly developed areas, and no tsunami.

For what it's worth, Bullseye, I had online contact with someone in Portland OR around 10-11 p.m. No problems were mentioned. I know that's further south. I hope you've gotten in touch with your friend!

Good report from BBC, anther favorite news site of mine, along with Reuters (harkening back to the "Where do you get your news" thread): Tsunami warning in Hawaii, out of caution. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-2f0113884 Reuters: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/28/us-hawaii-tsunami-idUSBRE89R02M20121028 The first waves were up to 2.5 feet; I guess that would have an effect in a harbor, as the interviewee said. Imagine what would have happened if an alarm was NOT called. Anyone read of the Italian geoscientists who were found guilty for not warning about the 2009 L'Aquila quake?! 340P, thanks. I did finally hear from my friend. They had a momentary power surge around the time of the quake that knocked out their answering machine and rendered their phone non-operational. Surprisingly enough, they did not feel the quake at all!
