The Chumash Casino is like the only one in California that doesn't serve alcohol like any other casino. We are so uptight here. Ridiculous.

Well for my money, 414 wins best parody comment of all time on Edhat. Nicely done, I smiled all the way through while I was reading!

I (sniff) will never step foot in that dump (whine, snivel) to see a concert because the place is tax-free ( rub eyes), the old geezers are gambling away their meager money not unlike Ryan wants you to do with your Medicare voucher (sniff sniff). How dare those Indians make money after all we've done for them (chest thump).

Plus, (snivel), I'd rather go see the Strolling Bones (sniff) at a real venue not that Indian Joint with all those Indians running it (sniff). So there. (Wank, whine, snivel and gripe).

It is impossible (by design) to go to the Samala showroom without passing through the grimey smoke stinking casino. Now they have converted almost all the slot machines to "penny machines" and the rest to mostly nickle machines. This is to attract more of the drug users and gambling addicts that frequent the place along with lonely old people who have nothing better to do all day long but sit robotic like gambling away their meager funds. Recently they applied to sell more alcoholic beverages mostly to make it available to the drunks and addicts that have become a fixture there and fought tooth and nail to keep out the police reports and evidence of the crime wave that represents the "Chumash resort". What is most remarkable is they try to call this dump a "5 star resort". Obviously they have never seen a real hotel/casino resort!

I don't know why people think the 70's only produced bad disco, while legends like Ian Anderson were on the scene.

I'm so envious! I last saw him at the Aqualung concert in the early 70's.

I Loved the show, and I'm glad the Chumash Casino brings in these performers. Locomotive Breath was breathtaking!
Since Ian Andersen plays flute and sings on Jethro Tull's mixed albums, (and his voice is not what it used to be), there was a protege on stage singing his parts that sounded just like I remember Tull sounding. Excellent show!

I'm partial to both Thick as a Brick & Passion Play; also Stand Up, Benefit, and Minstrel in the Gallery (great title song). War Child I liked too; I believe on that tour is when I finally saw them. I have no to little understanding of Thick as a Brick or Passion Play, beyond the works' passion and beauty. Glad you enjoyed it!

Do you believe? in the day...

Glad you enjoyed the blast from the past. Jethro Tull peaked when I was growing up in the 1970s, but I can't say I was enough of a fan to understand this Thick as a Brick piece.

My favorite album was War Child, which I still find one of the great musical presentations of war and peace.

He still has a good voice and plays well and I enjoyed the performance, but I don't feel qualified to be much of a critic. I was grateful that he ended with "Locomotive Breath" which is a relatively popular and accessible piece.

As for the venue, I enjoy it. The County Bowl has such oppressive security, I have had many unpleasant run-ins with them while just trying to mind my own business. It ruins the whole experience.

In contrast, the Chumash Casino auditorium is like going to the Lobero, Granada or Arlington or to UCSB. No nasty searches. Just friendly ushers. I don't like the smoke and casino, but once inside it is pleasant. And they have some excellent performers. Like Ian Anderson.

I'm with you, 243. I have never been to the casino and don't plan on ever stepping foot inside the place. They don't pay taxes, they ignore the rules, and their 'tribe' members get more than $40,000 per month. I would love to see some of the performers who go there but I think they are mostly at the 'b' level of their game if they are on the casino circuit.

Chumash Casino will never see a dime of my money. They built the ugliest blot on the earth in one of the prettiest areas of California.

Really kicking myself for not being up on things and going to this!
I did see Anderson's solo show at the Arlington, "Rubbing Elbows with Ian Anderson" in 2003.

Noozhawk's Jeff Moehlis thought it was great:

Robert, any input on the music, the show itself?
