To think that millions of these proud animals used to graze from sea to shining sea in North America until our Union Army made it their business to slaughter them wholesale. This was done, to bring the Native American population to its knees, to force them to give up their ancestral lands, and allow us to shove them onto poverty and addiction-ridden reservations. We Americans sure do have a lot to be proud about.

does anyone remember or know Leo Downey from 20 yrs ago in SB? He is a great singer/songwriter that performed around town. FYI Leo owns the Rocky Mountain Buffalo Ranch in Golden BC...look him up he is a pretty amazing guy.

From Wiki: The Wood Bison (Bison bison athabascae), also called Mountain Bison, Wood Buffalo, or Mountain Buffalo, is a distinct northern subspecies or ecotype of the American Bison (often called "buffalo"). Its original range included much of the boreal forest regions of Alaska, Yukon, western Northwest Territories, northeastern British Columbia, northern Alberta, and northwestern Saskatchewan. It is currently listed as Threatened on Schedule I of the Species At Risk Act. The Wood Bison differs from the Plains Bison (Bison bison bison), the other surviving North American subspecies/ecotype, in a number of important ways. Most notably, the Wood Bison is heavier, with large males weighing over 900 kilograms (2,000 lb), making it the largest terrestrial animal in North America. The highest point of the Wood Bison is well ahead of its front legs, while the Plains Bison's highest point is directly above the front legs. Wood bison also have larger horn cores, a darker and woollier pelage, and less hair on their forelegs and beard.

What is the difference between a wood bison and a regular bison? It doesn't look like it's made of wood, maybe that's why it says faux.

What is faux about this bison? Was this guy really by the side of the road? This almost looks like a museum diorama. What a brute! Thanks for sharing!
