Stealing 100 mm from a group of people exacts far greater consequences on society than the death of one person by dui. Think of all the suicides, deaths from inability to pay medical bills due to financial ruin, and myriad other maladies and miseries that befell those victimized by the financial crime. There is no comparison here. Lives can definitely be reduced to money.

555, she will start paying restitution in prison. Every time someone sends her money or if she gets a job, half of it will be taken out.

I'm trying to think of something more stupid than riding bikes near cars in wine country.

After being released from prison she can work as a stripper to pay the fine. They make quite a bit of money.

even if she never pays it all back, writing that check every month, or having it garnished from her wages, will be a nifty way for her to remember the harm her arrogance caused. In this day and age, how ANYONE is stupid/arrogant/careless/crazy enough to get behind the wheel after they have been drinking is unimaginable to me. If you want to drink yourself into oblivion, do it in your own home. If you can't just have one, or can't make plans to get another ride, they you're probably an alcoholic and need to stop, NOW, FOR GOOD. Been there, done that.

Maybe she got more time for hitting people riding their bikes. Stealing money is one thing. Physically injuring others is another. She will only do half time in the County jail anyway. And she can make payments for the rest of her life. She will be exempt while in jail.

That's odd, because on Raj Gupta of Wall Street only got 24 months in a country club for stealing $100 million! Seems like there's something wrong with the sentencing system.
