Looks like the fire department has it out. It is right next to the State Street offramp Southbound 101. Traffic is backed up just after Turnpike South bound off ramp. One fire truck 2 police officers on scene.

really 269?? I drove by it - the CENTER divider- maybe 3-4 feet wide, full of oleander. No one living there....if i were to blame, I would blame a cigarette thrown out of a car!

I went past before FD was there - no signs of hippies Roger although that would have made for a cool headline. lol It could have been a piece of glass in the light (I know some of you played with glass when you were kids in the summer!) or a spark from a car..who knows. It wasn't very big but man did it create some smelly smoke. Glad it stayed put and they put it out!

There's plenty of trash out in the medians so easy to see how a cigarette could cause this. Maybe some day Caltrans will have regularly scheduled median trash removal. It looks worse than any third world country out along the 101 all through SB and Goleta. For shame, those who litter and Caltrans who refuses to pick up the junk. (Yeah for those that do Adopt a Highway)

That little fire led to a few car accidents. 2 fender-benders and 1 pretty big one.
