As far as I'm concerned, when a vehicle driver flees the scene of a collision, and refuses to stick around to help a potentially seriously injured victim, they are not only violating the basic State Law, they are also pleading guilty to being 100% responsible for the collision. #105, put that in your pipe and smoke it.

this is only a little off topic... The Independent corrected the story at 6:30 a.m. and apologized: http://www.independent.com/news/2012/oct/23/homeless-biker-critical-condition/ The paper did the right thing, and promptly. They screwed up. It happens. We all know Roger's posts were clear. I'm a huge Independent fan. They and Edhat are my local news sources. I'm very supportive of both.

158 and 105 (unless you're one and the same) - what you fail to miss here is the HIT AND RUN. This has nothing to do with how the accident happened but that the driver took off after colliding with a kid on a bike. Stop making such presumptive and irrelevant assertions and take a look at what the real issue is here. Hope the kid is ok!

The mother of the "victim" second hand account, as told to her by her son is suspect as to truthfulness. I predict independent witnesses to the event would have seen a cyclist blowing through a stop sign and assuming the motorist had seen him and would yueild. I'm not saying your kid isn't honest. Just that the story as told by you does not have the ring of truth to it. It doesn't sound like your version of the events is what happened.

Thanks to the mother of the victim for posting; so glad it turned out as good as it did , and very sorry it happened. Be well! *Roger, no journalist is blaming you. It was a mistake.* I love what you do, I like you, but your hypersensitivity must make you crazy at times. It bothers me a little, when I or others try to communicate about something like this on this board. Ah well. Keep on keeping on. Peace out.

105 theres always one of your type in the mix trying to put blame on the victim huh..Well I know my son and know when he's lying and know how careful he is when he rides his bike. The guy looked right at him. Now I'm not saying he purposely hit my son cuz maybe they both assumed the otherw letting them go first but the fact that he hit my son and took off and left him in the middle of the road to possibly get hit again is completely wrong.

I hope your kid has a quick recovery too. Let's get real though...just because he said he stopped at the sign..and you don't know that the driver did see your son. You know one version of the events as told to you.after the fact, now that there was an accident doesn't mean that that's exactly what happened. Were there other independent witnesses of the accident? How about the person who stopped traffic? I live by the high school and students and Milpas bike traffice blow through the Olive / Anapamu stop sign all the time. I wish the police would have a look some morning, or lunch or when school lets out.

Well my son stopped at the stop sign. The driver saw my son and my son started to cross the street and the driver started driving and hit him and just took off. He was left in the street and thank God someone stopped in the middle of the street to stop the rest of the traffic from hitting him. He's a tough kid that already wants to go to football practice and sit on the sidelines so he doesn't miss any new plays.

This was my 13 year old son that was hit by a dark red or burgundy color minivan. He was on his way back from football practice. We just got out of the hospital. No broken bones. His football pads he was still wearing saved him. Any info you might have regarding this hit and run please contact the authorities. You can be anonymous. If you know someone with this type of minivan that has fresh damage to the front please contact the police.

There was a Hit and Run bicyclist accident at De La Vina and Canon Perdido around the same time a red car that was involved in the incident was last seen South on De La Vina. The incident near Quinientos and Milpas was reported over the Police Scanner, as a Pedestrian vs vehicle accident at Milpas and Quinientos and that is how I reported it. Some of the Professional Journalists in town who clain to constantly listen to a police scanner actually get texts from EDHAT for their breaking news stories. If they want to start blaming me for a mistake they made that is fine. Maybe they would like to also kick in a few bucks for my 401K. They blaiming me for their own mistakes would be like me calling 911 and telling them to get the story straight. LET THIS BE A LESSON.. Listen to a Police Scanner as I do, the only time I am not listening to a scanner is when I'm in the shower or asleep. I expect there will be no apology toward the blogger that posted both stories..Funny though at least this time the blogger was right and the Professional Journalist WRONG.

Good catch, Mesa Jim! I read their article and emailed Tyler Haden, praised him because I love the Independent and appreciate his work, and explained his confusion very clearly with links to and quotes from Roger's posts. I also told Haden that I thought it would be an expression of journalistic and The Independent's ethics and integrity to publicly acknowledge their incorrect criticism re: Edhat's/Roger's coverage. (Did I go too far? If so, the moral of the story is: Don't get unemployed! Insomnia, craziness and worse follow.) I look forward to a public response. Roger's posts were perfectly clear. They/Indie/Haden/interns, whoever, simply didn't read carefully enough, as the two separate situations were clear enough to Edhat readers. Deadlines and/or rushing can bite you, we all know that.

This one is on De La Vina and Canon Perdido. The one in the Indy was on lower Milpas. Two separate incidents I think. The Indy needs to make sure that they are talking about the same thing as Roger who just reports what is on the scanner.

SB Indy jumped on you, Roger! They said "This news report conflicts with edhat.com’s current blog post that says the incident was a felony hit-and-run." Maybe they feel threatened by the EdHat! They totally didn't have to add that to their piece for it to be informative & complete. Is there a feud going on? Can't we all just get along? Heh heh.
