If I am not mistaken that intersection is controlled by a traffic light. According to the people who screamed for a traffic light at Milpas and Ortega pedestrians are safer walking through intersections that have traffic lights. This accident proves that those cry babies are wrong.

I am guessing that the ped. was wearing dark clothes and was crossing either against the light or just as it changed. I use that intersection all the time; it's right by the very busy alcohol store and also by the TJ shopping center, across from the gas station-covenience store. Early evening, there's a lot of traffic, vehicular and pedestrian, and the intersection is not well-lit.

A friend of mine just drove thru the area and said that there is something in the middle of the block covered with a tarp. Sounds like a fatal accident to me..She said the body was in the middle of the block as if the victim was jaywalking.. I could have sworn someone was transported to Cottage maybe there was another victim? or an animal? I don't know because I never heard fatal accident but it sounded serious..KEYT is on at 11 maybe they will have it on.

Sorry 890 but I logged in to mark your post negative. Try to get some info on the incident next time before passing judgment, please?! None of us know! But I did catch the KEYT report, as I do occasionally catch the first 3 minutes if I'm watching tv. Best to her, or RIP... (sorry if this post is repetitive; I rarely post before reading the whole thread and any related threads) http://www.keyt.com/news/local/Bicyclist-Fights-for-Life-after-Car-Crash-175540481.html "The Santa Barbara Police Department is investigating a vehicle versus bicycle crash on Milpas and Quinientos Street. The accident happened around 7:30pm on Tuesday. The bicyclist is a 41 year old woman, who Santa Barbara Police say is a known transient. She was rushed to Cottage Hospital in critical condition. The driver of a Dodge Challenger was traveling North Bound on Milpas when he came in contact with the woman. It's unclear what direction she was riding in. Police blocked off the area from Milpas and Quinientos down to Mason street, to investigate. The Collision Reconstruction Team was on-site, gathering evidence, and looking at skid marks to piece together what happened. The driver is 21 years old. He did not appear to be injured or under the influence of drugs or alcohol."

334890- AGAIN, the driver in this incident didn't have insurance or an ID?

I believe the KEYT tv report did mention a bottle of malt liquor. Not certain where it was, I think they said in the road; they did not say it was in the car, nor did police spokesman, at that time. And how I fear and detest bikes and bike riders with zero lights... They are virtually invisible. I don't know that this bike rider didn't have any lights. That's my conjecture for the day. At least I intend it to be. Like rationalizations, they're hard to control.

What I heard was the driver was not under the infulence of anything nor was he suspected to be in the wrong. It was suspected that the bicyclist was carrying the malt liquor. She might also have been going the wrong way but I don't one hundred percent know these things, although I believe I know the bicyclist as far as knowing who she is..

907 - I can't believe you had the gall to write that. A transient female carrying malt liquor rides a bike in the street in the dark, gets hit by a sober driver, and you think this is somehow proof that traffic signals aren't safe for pedestrians?????

I don't know exacley where the woman was hit but the markings from the investigation indicate that she landed in the street at the base of Crown Liquors front driveway..It didn't happen in the middle of the block likre I first thought it was closer to the light.

127 - what? Read 907's comment again...he's saying that people get hit everywhere, not just where there are traffic lights. Off topic, sure, but really not worth a reaction...breathe

I am sorry that a bicyclist was hit and injured, but riding a bike on the ride side of the road after dark isn't really acting responsibly.

Ironically if this is the same person I think it is she always rides facing traffic on the wrong side of the street to avoid being hit. Like many homeless that pound the poison alcohol shes different when she doesn't drink I 'll be saying some prayers for her..

I know Colleen and she is always very social and friendly and I hope she recovers well. But one thing that seemed to me to have no real revelance to what transpired was her living conditions. There was a terrible accident involving a bicyclist and a motor vehicle, someone made a mistake. But her being homeless/transient does not have any relevance in the story. Does anyone believe it does?

I report what I hear. If I hear transient I say transient If I hear homeless I say homeless but now since I know whom she is she lived in an RV did she not? To me that is really not homeless, that is houseless. I have been both and I know the difference..I hope she pulls thru I gave her a bike cart one time. Shes a nice kid. A little different when drunk but who the hell aien't.

@334907 It clearly proves no such thing, since this wasn't a pedestrian and wasn't walking across the intersection, but when someone has no other argument or facts there isn't much else to do but call people they disagree with names, is there?

Has anyone seen an article about this? Other people have e-mailed me telling me does anyone know if this woman passed away? If anyone read it could they share where?
