You really have to question your ability as a human when you can't take used motor oil to one of the many collection sites around town.

Wow 962 - you really have your crabby pants on today. The pink shirts are great. The firefighters are professionals and by wearing shirts to support breast cancer awareness and a cure, they are not unprofessional, or unprofessional looking. A rose by any other name is still a rose.

Firefighters are professionals that should look the part. A pink ribbon pinned to their shirts or jackets shows solidarity with the breast cancer group and still maintains their professional appearance. The hazmat team working in pink shirts does not. What's next, Aloha shirts on Jimmy Buffet appreciation day?

My dad used to make me bury our used motor oil in the back yard. But not in the way back yard, that area was for growing pot.

And don't forget, men can get breast cancer also.

033... FYI, the firefighters purchase these shirts with their own money and choose to wear them to support the cause. Kudos to these brave people who continually put their lives on the line for complete strangers.

Breast Cancer fundraising is taking away funding for researching cures for other (more virulent) cancers. Slow it down, spread it around. The Fire Department and the NFL do this for publicity, for their own good. The money could actually be better used elsewhere.

Do the pink shirts identify them as hazmat workers or are they doing the breast cancer thing?

I like the pink shirts. Quite a bit. I like what they stand for and I also like the fact that the firemen are not afraid to flaunt their femmie sides to promote breast cancer awareness. Real men, I say! As for 961, maybe you should try a little pink - it may bring out your softer side. Thank you to the firemen and Hazmat team who work hard to keep us safe.

Coincidentally I was reminiscing with my father today about his history as a mechanic in the 60s and 70s. He remembers clearly that if they didn't have anyone who wanted the used oil the shop would just empty the 55 gallon drums in the creek out back. I'm 40 and even I remember the mechanics giving the used motor oil to the farmers for oiling their dirt roads. They'd spray miles of dirt roads with the oil to keep the dust down. Just like my mom who smoked and drank cocktails during pregnancy, no one thought twice about this kind of stuff. Many things were better back then, but not all. BTW, the pink ribbons are cool but the pink shirts look ridiculous.

Amazing that a county hazardous waste worker found this. Great news that it's oil, not some toxic esoteric organic pesticide or herbicide.

That looks to be a 7gal container and it didn't make its own way to that spot without help. Who collects that much motor oil and dumps it on the side of the road? Clearly someone who resents environmental regulations on the disposal of such materials and left it for the county to do it for them.
