Wow, I'd forgotten about both these things, but thanks for the great reminder. Now if we could get some great photos of Camp Lorr, I'd feel like my childhood had been documented in full!

...yes I remember the ponnies, my brother Richard (god bless his soul) liked the slow pony, I on the other hand liked the fast one. Also, FYI before the pony station it was the dog pound, my "Tio Leonard" AKA "Uncle Lenny" was a tail wagger. Yes being from an old family her in Santa Barbara had it's perks. My dad born and raised could tell you so much history, I wish I listened better.

The pony rides were at the corner of East Cabrillo Boulevard and Santa Barbara Street. The dog pound was next door to the pony rides.

What ever happened to the harbor ship park? That looks AMAZING! Why would they ever tear such a thing down? We could use more nautical inspired decor, playgrounds, parks here. We ARE, after all, a port city! I'm from San Diego and the decor down there in and around Shelter Island is fantastic! SB seems boring compared to it. Spanish red-tiled roofs are fine, but bring in some ocean related and nautical flavor too. Celebrate the sea and the sailors!

The ship was at the Santa Barbara Zoo and was constructed by the volunteer labor of zoo supporters. It only lasted a few years as it was probably deemed not very safe. However, in those days we didn't have to worry about the safety police in the playgrounds and our children sometimes fell off things and thus learned to be more careful. We didn't blame the equipment.
