Maddening that Mesa Lane gets this and Thousand Steps gets ignored. Again.

Thousand steps is a much, much bigger problem with many, many more constraints than Mesa Lane - namely, space and accessibility. Not denying it needs to be done, more so than Mesa Lane, but sometimes the specifics of projects drive which ones get completed first. Thousand steps will have its day, just keep your voice heard and the time will come.

What are the main problems at Thousand Steps? I haven't been there in years.

No good deed EVER goes unpunished, right? The cost of 1000 steps repair is HUGE...perhaps Mr. 796 can help gather funding ideas

It is worth the cost. Thousand steps is so wet and slippery. Has anybody slipped yet?

Thousand Steps is so wet and slippery that I am surprised someone hasn't been seriously hurt. I was there about a month about ago and an elderly man with three dogs slipped but was able to get up and continue down. Really dangerous but I am not sure what they can do about it because the wetness must be caused by the watering of the surrounding yards.

Isn't there a sign at the top of 1000 Steps warning of the danger of going down that way?

I've lived 2 blocks away from Thousand Steps since 1965, and there has always been a wetness problem there. I do not believe it is from the watering of the yards, but from natural seepage. It will be a huge deal to get it to stop, if it's at all possible.

Maybe if you people complain enough the City will just close Thousands Steps, because they can't afford to fix it. I've been using those stairs for 20+ years and I'm just happy they're there.

The Mesa Ln. steps were fine as is until the next mega storm sweeps them away. THEN replace them, not now. Wasted money.

134 - I'm sorry. That doesn't make sense. It took a year to do the analysis & design & process the application. It took another few months to come up with grant money to help fund the project. If you wait for the storm, stairs are out of use at least 1 1/2 years instead of a few weeks.

I have used these wet steps for 35 years. I know it would cost a small fortune but why not build a rail road tie staircase (like the 4" thick double members of Mesa Lane) on top of the existing wet concrete staircase? I know it would be narrow but it would be above the wet steps.

134, i was standing on the bottom landing at mesa ln a couple weeks ago and the boards were severely rotted and felt unstable under my weight. sometimes a half dozen people end up standing on the landings watching the surf or sunset; a collapse was inevitable.
