RHS - sounds more like an opportunity to AVOID the whole prosecution system for minor things like drunk in public, etc. I think this will free up a lot of the Court's time dealing with minor misdemeanors so they focus more effort and resources on more significant crimes. I would much rather take a class than be prosecuted, fined and have a criminal record for something so minor.

Note that driving w/o a license is one of the violations that will be allowed deferral. Another handout to illegal aliens.

Is this the same 'educational' services company that was sued in Hawaii? http://hawaii.gov/dcca/ocp/udgi/lawsuits/hicp/final-judgment-without-criswell.pdf

Sounds like another program to deprive litigants of their Constitutional Right to Counsel and Due Process. The DA will be encouraged to prosecute cases which would have failed and accused people will have little information on their options and will be cowered into taking the "diversion" program rather than risk the wrath of the judge and prosecutor. We are corrupting our historic rights in the pursuit of expediency.
