Some of these shots make it look more like volcanic activity. Cool.

I talked to a homeowner in the painted cave community who said his power went out and shortly thereafter he saw the smoke. This is conjecture but perhaps downed power lines started the fire? As for 154, I believe it's open now but there is still a lot of emergency vehicle traffic so it would be smart to avoid it if one can.

I hear ya, Stace. It's horrible and weird to be correcting the newscasters as we listen... As when the female a.m. anchor asked if it was suspicious that this started in the same place as Painted Cave Fire, and I'm thinking: No, not the same place! I had moved out of the area already but had lived within a mile of the ignition point. Not to mention once interacting with the suspect/civilly responsible party. (anyone interested can google it) There's a lot of us in SB who remember the Sycamore Canyon Fire ('77), let alone the Coyote Fire ('64), let alone Gap, Tea, Jesusita and more. Best wishes, Lance and Carla. RIP, Andrea Lang. You are not forgotten.

Just to be clear, I was NOT on 154. No one but Fire Personnel and equipment should be on the pass or near the fire origin...please, stay away and let the fire crews work unimpeded.

Thanks for the photos Aqua. Where were you standing when you snapped these shots?

Thank you for the photos Aqua. This is a scary situation and seeing photos helps put the problem into perspective. I lived in the Painted Cave community at the time of the 1990 fire, and still have friends and family in the community. This morning's fire really hit a nerve. Thanks Edhat for being the wonderful news source that you are. And of course, thanks to the firefighters and first responders who are working so hard in difficult conditions. I'm feeling better - cautiously optimistic, but with a change in wind conditions, we all know how quickly things can change on the fire line.
