The response by the fire-fighting professionals (ground, air, etc.) was astonishing and FAST. I first heard it on KNX (LA) radio at 8 am and half hour later there were 100 boots on the ground fighting it and evacuating residents of Painted Cave,, 3 (I think) water-dropping helicopters, 6 fixed-win g aircraft dropping phoscheck and water, and numerous law-enforcement officers working the fire. It sure made me feel safe - given that the start was about a mile straight up from my house. Great work all around guys. You have the thanks of all of us - and I can sleep a lot better at night knowing you're on the job.

374: Towing the cars of lookie-loos would be a very BAD idea -- it would result in countless tow trucks in the area, slowly hooking up cars to tow away, and countless more cars sitting idle, waiting to be towed. Can you imagine how 50 or even 20 tow trucks thrown into that scene would result in total chaos? Plus the people who had their cars towed, walking down the Pass on foot? Or calling for someone to pick them up? It would be utter madness on top of an already chaotic scene.

Second hand smoke... OMG. But what about the evil cigarette smokers who have never impacted "your environment" like this fire has. There goes another politically correct fiasco up in Smoke. Hee hee. Ban all bar-b-ques, yea !!!! Thou shall not allow forest fires...

What radio stations are the best places to get current info on a local emergency? Please give the AM dial #s.

Lookie-loos on West Camino Cielo keep stopping on the curve overlooking the fire area, causing a bottleneck in a dangerous area. We need traffic control. These are not residents.

I was freaking out, too. So HAPPY that Edhat came back up.

I just came from San Antonio Creek Rd. and saw 4 heilocopters and 2 planes circling the fire like bees going to a hive. The smaller copters are getting their water from CalFire water trucks off of the Bridge to Nowhere. As I came down Foothill I saw the CalFire water trucks filling up at the fire hydrant close to the onramp of the 154.

Although the fire is smaller, its still very active. No fire is safe unless it's OUT. I know some people are saying Cathedral Oaks is closed but it's not. As for the 154, it's crawling with CHP- marked and unmarked.

No you were not the only one freaking out without access to edhat. I even called my son in WA to give me the websites he used for fire services when he lived here....no use, so looked at KEYT but they went to regular programming. They do have a live stream online which may help. And listened to 99.9FM but they are playing music a lot. Good grief, so glad you are back.

MESA, you were not alone freaking out when edhat got overloaded. I am here in Baja and my son's home is on Foothill near 154 . My neighbor was giving me updates from San Diego radio. Then checked Indy and a commenter mentioned the live streaming from KEYT. Looks scary.

Edhat is my tie to home and I felt abandoned.

("They" and "them" refers to gov't. and emergency command and first responders and firefighters and pilots and spouses ;-) and everyone -- Thank You! mostly it refers to Command.)

I thought it was almost common practice to at least check ID's. They could have a checkpoint at 154/Foothill. They should!

There are changes though. KEYT clarified that it's not a "mandatory" evac, as people cannot be forced out of their homes. Can't roadway access be limited to "residents only" without "closing the road"? Is there a legal point preventing them from doing so?

And I realize it's in part (great or small) because there are no other fires today in So Cal, but wow, this has been hit with everything. It's a reaction to what we've been through. It's great to see.

I haven't heard it specified, but I assume the Red Cross shelter allows dogs and cats. That's been much the case since Katrina. But usually they advertise it.

Still impressed with KEYT. The shots of the drops from the porch were impressive.

332379 - wow. That's unbelievable. During emergencies like this, as our public safety crews are taxed and busy, I really think we should be able to write Citizen Stupidity tickets on such people. The fine should be no procreation until they've completed an extensive common sense course.

I live on the 154 and just came back home from SB. Lots of people stopping and taking photos. Too many lookie-loos. People, please stay out of the area, I saw a fire engine stuck in a line of cars.

We have some of the best firefighters in the US here, please give them the space to fight this fire before the winds kick up. If you don't live up there or own land head back to the city. I personally think people should be cited and there cars towed if they are up there for viewing reasons. Come near my property with a camera instead of a hose and I will clear you and your vehicle out with my tractor.

Up here at the Trout Club, we've got helicopters going over about every couple of minutes. Most TC residents have not evacuated. It's quite hot up here, but very still -- no wind-- thank goodness!

Fire PIO told KEYT it could be birds, wind, or other reasons. It is under investigation, but arson not suspected.
