Not to rain on everyones parade, but i hope goletans dont naively believe this obviates the need for Measure G (as Chamber head Kristen Miller hopes). The timing of this announcement is suspect

Make sure Measure G is not forgot . Don't think the developers , lawyers and friends will not regroup . It is not as simple as it seems but for now it seems good . Goleta needs to watch over their resources now and in the future . I wonder also what would happen on Bishop Ranch if UCSB made a move to grab it ? Does Measure G help to prevent this or not ?

Yes, vote for Measure G, because Bishop Ranch is not the only agricultural land and owners can always change their minds. That is why we need to make it a very inclusive and thoughtful process to change those lands to concrete. YES on Measure G. We must protect our beautiful environment or we lose it.

This is good news, but fellow Goletans we must remain vigilant. Don't let our guard down. This is likely a ploy by the Bishop Ranch would-be developers to make us voters feel that we don't need to vote for Measure G... but the developers will back back. So... it is important that we Vote Yes on Measure G so the fate of Goleta's agricultural fields will be in the voters' hands. True democracy.

Anything that scares the developers as much as Measure G must be good. It's easy enough to buy 3 council votes but to get the votes of half a city would mean only the best of projects would make it through.

Funny how much the people who already have affordable places to live don't care too much about those who do not. Classic "have"s and "have-not"s situation - try viewing it from the other end once in awhile, it's not all about YOU...

Thanks to all who put in the time to alert the public and veto this plan. We must preserve open spaces for future generations, we are a small town and we need to keep it like that, not the next Ventura or cities south. I remember when most of Goleta was orchards and it nice it is a city now, but let's take some time out from building and building, keep SB and Goleta small.

359 there is plenty of "affordable" housing close by: Buellton, Lompoc, Santa Maria, Ventura. We don't need to build on every last piece of open space in Santa Barbara so that YOU may continue to feel entitled to a piece of it.

Well, the state has decided that you can't dump your affordable housing problem on other communities and can levy fines if the Goleta Housing Plan doesn't include plans for additional housing to contain the projected increase in population. So maybe you have won this battle but the State still has the advantage in the war. I live in a neighborhood that was developed in 1949 but am conscious that before my house was there it was the Mission Creek floodplain and orchards. I can't blame other people for wanting to live in nice houses in Santa Barbara and Goleta. As our population grows our amenities will disappear, either slowly or more quickly than we want. Good luck with the NIMBY thing.

THANK YOU 411!!! 404 - Please don't change the subject of my comment and then make things up. I am NOT talking about nearby towns/cities, I'm talking about GOLETA and GOLETA ONLY. Just like literally everyone else on this board...except for you. I did not say I feel entitled to a development. In fact, you are arguing that YOU and the people that agree with YOU are entitled to 100% of the open space being preserved!!! Hypocritical... Hate to break it to you, but YOUR HOME was once a development too. YOUR HOME was once open space. It's time people got off their high horses and think about the good of the community rather then getting what they want and then denying everyone else of the same thing. Very selfish.

Another selfish person here! Selfishly trying to keep Goleta a nice place for my kids to live. Just because my house was once a development doesn't mean we should build on every square inch of dirt. It may be inevitable, but let's at least slow it down. YES ON G!

Orange County was once a wonderful place to live before the developers got a hold of it. Now there are plenty of affordable places to live but most of the beauty is gone. Stick to your guns Goleta. Yes on Measure G!
