Thank you SBPD. I can't believe the dog wasn't immediately quarantined at the County Shelter. I hope this idiot gets what he deserves. A long jail sentence, public humility, and not ever being allowed to own an animal again. My last dog had biting issues with other dogs which we resolved, but only once, a human and for that she was quarantined at the shelter for 10 days. How is this fool any different?

Only in California can cops do this and it's not called trespassing. It took 4 hours to get a warrant. I'd lawyer up- and I'd win...

949 well said. Lose some of the judgement in this "community" and maybe edhat will get some more Community Members.

Is all this name calling of parties involved necessary? Do you know them? Were you there? If you don't know the facts unless you are perfect in your life perhaps you should omit judgement.

Edhat community is getting worse and worse at being judgmental. Drunk driving is bad...but this stream of commenting is just as disappointing. There was a time when a lot of people I knew read edhat. Now, I scan it, comment rarely and when I ask "Did you read edhat today? more and more say...no, I don't read it any more." C'mon you guys...

Dogs feed off their owners signals. I’m sorry that Mr Beniak did not exit the house as the police requested. It sounds like there were several hours that the house had police and others surrounding it- and that kind of scenario could easily irritate ANY DOG. I know these dogs very well and his wife. My arrival to their house is greeted by a BAROO and the wag of a tail and then a welcome butt wiggle and some soft vocalizations as they tell me they are happy to see me. These dogs are not trained or bred aggressive they are cared for extremely well by the Beniaks. It’s sad to see that KEYT and comments on Edhat are pointing to the dogs being the problem when they weren’t. They were feeding off the environment they were put in. I hope that Mr Beniak gets the help that he needs and can heal as he pays his debt to society.

Jerk! Wonder if he used his hound dog's to hunt, chase, and tree innocent bobcats and bears. Maybe he was drowning his sorrows in booze over our Governor signing SB1221. NO HOUND DOGS allowed to chase, tree then kill our native bobcats, and bears. Woo Hoo.

Obviously, alcohol is not this man's best friend. Too bad it took this incident to prove it to him. Poor dog, being at such risk cuz of a fool like this.

849, there is use and abuse. Drinking a prize winning beer or 2 isn't the same as getting s--tface drunk, to the point of passing out in a car. One article has nothing to do with the other.

so funny that two below this is an article glorifying a local establishment for winning an alcohol tasting competition.

ooooh, ya.. This is not a new problem. this guy has been drinking this way for decades. Used to work in bars and restaurants where they would drink. Wife is nice..but totally stuck in the enabling... After this many priors this can't end well

I have met the wife walking her bloodhounds in our neighborhood and they have always been friendly.

I guess my mentioning this incident on the previous day was valid....and those who were suspect of animal control being on the scene could take back their suspicious comments

If an alcoholic wants to get drunk, why not do it at home so it doesn't require driving? Did this guy have a valid liscense? He shouldn't even be allowed a car w/3 DUI priors.

Actually it says he was arrested for driving on a suspended license.

Any dog, even those well cared for and kindly treated, can bite. When my dog realized I was being threatened in a dark parking garage, she tried to bite the man threatening me. She is a breed known to be protective. For this drunk to risk the dog's life, as it had every chance of being shot, reflects on him. His wife is a very nice lady and loves and cares for those dogs beyond reproach. I'm sorry for her that life has come to this. I hope he does some jail time and is put into a rehab environment.

Sad to hear that this had to happen. Sounds like this guy needs some help. Hope the cop is OK. In regards to the dogs, in my experience dogs are often uneasy around men in uniform. With the belligerent man & police yelling back & forth, I wouldn't be surprised if the dogs sensed danger. The owner should have listened to the police. Drink responsibly people or NOT AT ALL.

Three priors in 10 years. We can bet that this man was drunk just about every time he got behind the wheel. How awful.

674: Mom might be awesome, but if the dog bites someone when Dad opens the door, there is an issue with how at least ONE of the doggie parents is raising the pups. Still, I'm very glad they are doing an at home quarantine. The idiot drunk shouldn't be allowed around dogs if he's going to use them as protection. He'll only manage to end up getting the poor dogs killed if they ever injure someone again. This guy is a serious schmuck.

Would this report exist if Beniak was a cop or retired cop? Or would privicy be cited as it has in the past?

Grateful to the neighbors who turned this guy in. There was a chronic DUI driver on my block. Neighbors warned him that they'd have him arrested -- and they did.

Whoever heard tell of a Bloodhound biting anyone? Makes me wonder how the dogs have been treated.

Something terribly wrong with our system, that these alcoholics earn DUI after DUI and are still out on the road. Just danged lucky he didn't kill or maim anyone. I agree . . .what a waste.

Great job SBPD. Thank you to our DUI officers putting themselves on the line everyday to protect us. If Beniak was a friend of the NP and a "journalist" then I am sure that Officers Tuazon and Harrison would be reported as unethical and dirty.

He will be lucky if he don't get bit in County Jail. 30,000 Bail isn't much for the charges. If he was homeless it would be a million dollars.
