Once again, Paul Orfelea puts his quiet money where his heart is. We are so fortunate he has chosen to stay and fully participate in Santa Barbara. Thanks Paul!

CA Secretary of State research shows the limited partnership is registered to 1205 COAST VILLAGE RD - West Coast Asset Management. Paul Orfalea, Andrew Firestone, Lance Helfert,... good local crowd reinvesting into Santa Barbara. At least it's not a Japanese bank... SBB&T.

The current El Prado is not going to bring in tourists interested in the "high-end watering holes" a few blocks away in the State and Victoria area. The Lemon Tree and Crocodile is actually the under the radar, sleeper deal at State and Alamar but too far to walk to the "high-end watering holes" further down town.

I often put guests up at El Prado. They are one of the few places that don't have a 2 night weekend minimum. It is always tidy and rooms are clean. Do the new owners plan to slap on fresh paint and jack up prices? I sure hope not.

Maggie's has the creepy vibe of an Orange County high-end restaurant. Kind of a chain quality of over-kill hype, pretense with unwelcoming decor designed to intimidate, serving barely mediocre food. That is what this El Prado press release sounds like - part of the same genre.

Typical Radius press release, polishing up a turd of a deal. Its a junky building in a dead area of State.

Re: 601 I believe your confusing the El Prado with the Presidio Motel, 1620 State Street.

That must be why the Yehs chased out the two art curators who made that place happening.

What is with all the hate for Maggie's? The owner is not from OC - he is a local.

This area has now been invaded by sleeping vagrants at night in every door step after Trinity Espiscopal Church invited them into the neighborhood to camp out on their lawns They refused to go away after Trinity quickly abandoned this failed project once they learned where all the nooks and crannies and courtyard fountains are located that continue to give them cover. Ahem... their preferred "chic watering holes" of choice. Try walking around this neighborhood late at night or very early in the morning and see how "chic" it has become. Maybe with the "right" local property owneres will get some action here to stop this invasion. However from the press release, it sounds more like the same Orange County Maggie's restaurant creep to me. They may end up making us wish the vagrants were our only problem; not the "chic" wannabees.

I liked it when it was the El Prado - my wedding guests stayed there and it was perfect. Reasonably priced, nice pool, pretty nice rooms.

I know it use to be used for witnesses of some criminal cases to stay in. Didn't someone dive off one of the floors and miss the pool once?

Press release. Too bad it doesn't say anything specific, like who the "local investors" are, and why Days Inn ditched it after such a short time and no capital improvements.
