We live there as well and YES IT IS MOSTLY SPEED!!! Around an corner and down the hill at excessive speeds. We exit both ways at Sheffield as our home is right there and yesterday a motorcyclist was going about 100 MPH headed right toward this exit, it was absolutely insane! Trucks can't negotiate it at this speed either, constant emergency braking. Now Caltrans is putting in a carpool fast lane, that should up the anty and DEATHS! This is just plain crazy on their part. We have attended all the meetings for this and they are recalcitrant on anything opposing their decisions! Ask Carbajal!!!

I am not saying it is speed alone. It is a combination of factors. . . Heavy traffic, crazy drivers who think they should be able to cut in and out at will, dangerous access ramps, and speed. Some of those factors will never change and others won't change any time soon, but the speed limit can A B S O L U T E L Y be lowered. This corridor is suicidal and Caltrans will not admit it. It definitely appears as if citizen involvement is the only thing which will cause this unacceptable situation to change.

First District and commentator 584 - I very much doubt that speed alone is the real problem here - its far more more likely to be because drivers are texting, or talking on their phones, or messing with other gadgets in their cars, instead of *driving* and concentrating on *driving* alone. Driving and multitasking are mutually exclusive, and when people finally realize this fact of life, there will be far less accidents.

Tons of accidents at this interchange. We live right here and witness the screeching tires and impact of metal (and resulting sirens). At least every other day, total chaos on the weekends. If Caltrans claims this is not a high accident corridor, they are either nuts or in denial. Just as bad or worse is the daily flow of traffic in the morning and afternoon that turns Sheffield and Jameson Lane into a 70+mph freeway. No CHP enforcement (which we have requested repeatedly). SB Sheriff's does nothing about this, preferring to sit in the bushes and wait for a soccer mom to roll through the stop sign at Hixon Road

Again and again, but Caltrans claims it's not a high accident corridor. Long overdue for a speed limit reduction.
