339, 341 -320 was nice, 425, 366...I stopped counting after that: Nice chortles and guffaws. And we wonder why very little gets done. I'd be embarrassed to have my name on that structure. It's ridonkulous!

Concur with RONNIEB...the new terminal is lifeless and cold. The old one had charm and a funky SB vibe. Seeing it on arrival felt like home. It needed refurbishment, not replacement. This monstrosity could be Generic Terminal, Anywhere, USA (but clearly USA because of the disproportionate TSA pat-down arena). Service is no better, functionality only slightly so because of Jetways for the stair-challenged.

The last time this came up I DID send my opinion to Karen Ramsdell and I got a response. My suggestion was to transfer the name of the old terminal (Earl Ovington) to the new one or, better, to just leave it as is. She said that the rock with the plaque honoring Earl Ovington is to be reinstalled -- if it hasn't already -- near the newly restored original terminal. On our last trip out of SBA I noticed that they seem to be working on Gate 5 so that passengers who arrive on one of the United Express Brasilias won't have to walk up two ramps to get inside the terminal. Instead they will use the escalator or elevator. Reverse to get to the aircraft. BTW, on that last trip we made the trip down the ramps twice -- and back up once -- because of poor communication between the gate (Now staffed by American Eagle) and the cockpit. Very unprofessional.

How about "Can't Match Old Terminal Airport?" SBA lost it's soul with this sterile new terminal. The old one was probably the most charming in the country.

I completely agree with so many others that it should remain the Santa Barbara Airport--period. But if a name change has to be made, I like the suggestion I heard some time ago to call it "Mescatitlan Airport", after all, the airport does sit on the very site of that lost Indian city. The fact that it would be confusing to many travelers is exactly the reason why we should keep the present name.

There have been many, many people and organizations responsible for making our County special. It would be impossible to single out just one. The words, Santa Barbara, are more than sufficient and that has been my vote to our Council members.

@MSSB: 1. A bunch of times. 2. Yes. Memories are short so it must be brought up again and again and again or until you blow a gasket whichever occurs first. 3. Forever or until the city deteriorates into a seething crimefest. 4. I don't think it's possible but we could get lucky, after the sky turns green.

I'm now starting a petition for: Aquaholic's Awesome Airport. I know it'll be confusing, and we'll surely have an inordinate number of folks just looking for a map, trip advice or insurance, not to mention the occasional poor soul looking for their monthly AA meeting site, but it's a risk worth taking.

SBA will still be SBA after it's named something else. Leave it at that, Santa Barbara Airport. Or have a drawing, sell tickets for 500 bucks a crack, and name it after a random person, Joe Blo International Airport or something. Use the money to help get rid of the TSA pervs. If there was ever an argument for privatization, they are it. Ditch the goons.

How about the Independent Terminal at Santa Barbara Airport since the entire reason this has come up is the owner of the Indy Marianne Partridge wants to name it for one of her forefathers a former mayor. Because she is not better than Wendy in the ethics department the Indy has been filled with subtle stories about him, and mentions of the airport without actually saying she is the one pushing this. Bravo Marianne way to pull a McCaw!

It's no big deal renaming an airport. Just about everyone (including both airports' websites) still calls Bob Hope Airport the Burbank Airport and John Wayne Airport the Orange County Airport. Pick someone worthy, name the airport after them, then go on with your lives and still refer to it as the Santa Barbara Airport. Easy peasy.

The whole naming issue came from two interest groups each with an agenda, to get the terminal named after their guy. One guy was a player in the city's acquisition of the airport property. My problem with this is memorializing a paid city official for doing his job 60 years ago. The other guy was a low key philanthropist that disliked being in the public eye. Having read the history, I have to feel that he would be upset by the publicity. This is all a silly egofest being pushed by a small number of people with an agenda that I fail to understand. Santa Barbara Airline Terminal as a nice sound.

I'd name it Storke. However, it is much harder to get on/off planes at the new terminal than it was at the old. You still go up/down the stairs attached to the plane, and then in addition you must go up/down a long ramp to/from the second floor of the terminal. Seems odd to have spent so much and as a result degraded performance for passengers.

Some folks may not have actually flown in, nor out, of our fantastic hometown airport...it's design and aesthetic are first rate. You're unlikely to find a more beautiful airport than ours, and for that reason, I vote for keeping it's current name.... it doesn't need any name other than Santa Barbara, IMO.
