871 - not confirmed. Just to set the record a little straight, this was not a "gang banger" party. This was a birthday party. Were there gang members present? Yes. Were there college educated people present? Yes. This, unfortunately, is what happens when you grow up - some of your friends go one way, some go the wrong way. I have NOT heard conformation that he has passed away. I also don't know who was shot - I have been told it was one of two people, but I haven't been able to confirm who it was. If it was the birthday boy, that makes me very sad. He was not gang affiliated. This party was crashed. I was invited and did not attend.

The Noozhawk story says it best, lots of information and also great detail from the Sheriff's Department PIO. I hope they stay with a law enforcement official when it comes time to find a replacement for PIO Sugars. You get information from an officer's perspective which is very valuable, instead of a news reporter which is usually clueless. I hope that the Sheriff keeps us updated on this incident.

Thank you SBSO. Parents, when you leave your teenagers at home please make sure a responsible adult knows and keeps an eye on things. We are all just lucky that innocent neighbors, residents, or law enforcement officers, were not injured.

The girl was screaming for the police to get the lights out of her eyes? For future reference kids: If you hear screaming, especially if you hear Police telling you to get down or hands up then go flat on the ground with your hand behind your head or spread eagle. Do not argue with the police or complain about their directions.

One kid was stabbed, another shot and the kid with the gun now dead. Police were threatening to shoot multiple people because no one was cooperating. Even girls were screaming at the police to get their lights out of their eyes. Total chaos.

Gangs..I was in two of them when I was a kid back East. It sounds to me like others might have been hit with more blood found. If I was that girls Dad she'd been moving into a convent today..I do feel bad for the families involved.

Roger I know the house where this happened. Just got off the phone with a neighbor and it was the boyfriend of the girl who was having a party while the parents were not home. He is in very critical condition. Rumored he is part of a gang. All started with a car rolling past the house at 2:45 am with loud music. Another neighbor woke and went outside to find out what the noise was about and that is when gunfire began.

Roger, even you need sleep! Don't be concerned about missing part of the call. You were able to get the information out there. This is where I checked to see what happened when I heard about it. This is where I go whenever I hear a lot of sirens. I have to say I checked KEYT and they posted about it...but not until 11:30 am! Talk about late!

I'm sure that officer who shot the perp will be on admin leave for a while- I wish we could donate to a "Hawaiian Beach Holiday" all expenses paid for him and his significant other for a week...He will need to get his mind right. Kudos to the SBSO

Santa Maria has had a lot of officer involved shootings this year but when was the last time the Santa Barbara metro area did? I am not saying Goleta is the new Santa Maria just that it does seem to be big news. Roger was all over it and while normally I could shrug off the lack of other coverage this is kind of a huge story for other local media not to have covered. Glad the deputies are all going home safely.

Roger, maybe thats where the shooting started? There seemed to be a lot of gun shots reported. Just want to say Roger, you are the reason I will be going to a paid subscription! I live somewhat close to the area, closer to Patterson. I didn't hear anything, not even the helicopters. However, my daughter, who had stayed the night at a friends house last night, heard about this and called this morning worried about us.
