Yesterday at night about 11 pm i heard some strange gun shot sounds or something that sounded close to it. And currently i woke up at 5am and I"m hearing helicopter repeatedly flying over my neighborhood which is near turnpike/hollister

We live right in that area and between 3:56-4:00 heard 3 separate rounds of what we thought were firecrackers. Assumed we were wrong as soon as we heard sirens a couple minutes later and they were going on & off for 5-10 minutes. Sounded like police & ambulance. So my guess is that they were gunshots. The helicopter(s) have been circling a wide perimeter since 4:40am. Locked all of our windows and thankful the kids spent the night at their grandparent's house!

Hollister is shut down. Offramp at Turnpike is closed. There is Air Support, a command post and sounds like they havent entered the residence yet. I heard they found bloody pants.

Wow thought it was something like this it woke me up. I sleep with the scanner on was hearing calls of people detained here and there. I did not hear the itinal report they are switching channels so I won't hear much information. It doesn't sound like everyone is in custody so I'd keep everything locked up tight.

I live on Ashdale. Made a call to 911 at around 3AM. Officers on the way while I was on hold.
The street where all the action happened is on Andrita.
Area is locked down tight. I had to get permission to leave and go to work at 5:30AM. Driving by Andrita looked like a crime scene investigation you might see on TV.

I wonder why they would wait 4 hours to actually go inside where the shooting occurred knowing people might be injured? I guess they had to secure the area first, but that sucks for the injured. Sounds Iike the helicopters might be going home finally after almost 3hrs of circling over our house. I just want to say how thankful I am to have edhat! Our own local news doesn't even stay up to date on what's happening, so it's nice to know I can get on here to get the real news! Thanks Roger!

It doesn't sound like they found anyone else injured..Maybe just covering all bases..The shooter, or shooters might still be on the loose..Chopper is going to fuel up not sure if it's comming back..I checked KEYT and Noozhawk couldn't find anything yet but then again I got here alittle late myself..

Thanks for the updates Roger, I'm listening in as well. You would think that our own local news would be covering this considering that an area was basically shut down. Maybe it's too early in the A.M. for KEYT. Just heard they are taking down the barricades and moving command post to Andrita St.

My daughter is having a sleepover at a friend's house. They wanted to walk from smhs to the pumpkin patchast night & I said no chance. They opted to go this morning... I woke up with a bad feeling. Thank you so much Edhat! I appreciate your tweets, too. I just informed her that there will be no pumpkin patch until roger gives the all clear.

Live down the street from the house where the shooting occurred. Many hispanic youths fighting, then gunshots rang out. Cops showed up soon and many more rounds were fired. "Rock Creek" was yelled at the start of the incident. Many screaming women. The combatants scattered throughout the neighborhood. Ghetto bird was flying all morning but has since left. Cops still have neighborhood cordoned off looking for more losers.

So terrible and unreal that Santa Barbara has no live coverage when there is something significant going on! KEYT doesn't answer their phone, even during business hours... No radio stations past business hours! So nice to be "in the dark", when we should be informed!!! We need 24 hour media coverage of "OUR" city, besides EDHAT!!! Thanks for all you do, Roger, EDHAT staff, and posters!!! Someone needs to pick up the slack!!!

Thank you Edhat for providing real time local news. KEYT should be ashamed at how slow they are to report on this major story. We live nearby/close to San Marcos high school. I am deeply saddened to think that more lives may have been lost last night due to kids having easy access to guns. Wouldn't it be better if young people in gangs could only attempt to hurt each-other hand to hand? Our community should be a safer place. It is time to make necessary changes and end these tragic acts of violence.

Thanks Roger and Everyone. We live about 4 streets back from this, were sleeping with our window open and heard nothing. Crazy. I wonder if this had anything to do with the HS football game last night? Not that I want to jump to conclusions, but parents need to keep their kids on lock down after midnight.

There was a shooting 5 suspects ran and they were all apprehended at about 4:45 am. They were stopping all cars coming from that area to make sure they had all suspects.. Kudos to our K-9 and all the Sheriff, CHP personnel for being so quick to respond. Very exciting evening.... Roger I listen to my scanner just about as mush as you :)

Folks, it ain't Edhat that's sending paid journalists into the field to interview everybody and get sensational pictures. All this reporting is done by an Edhat subscriber, a volunteer. Maybe Roger is getting paid by Ed for his daily reports and weekly summaries, if he isn't he should be, but none of this is work done by our esteemed 4th Estate.... the professional media. Accept it.... journalism is dead.

I heard the incident start, near Glenbroke and S. Turnpike, right around 245. There was a lot of yelling, a single shot, sreaming, then multiple shots, sounding as if a running gun battle was in progress. A third round of shots, automatic weapon sounding occurred, with the sound going away from my location towards Magna Vista. I was able to monitor most of the incident on my scanner. One injury transported code 3 to Cottage by ambulance. Pepole were apprehended on Ashdale, and then in backyards on Andrita in a systematic search. The area was cordoned off, vehicles were stopped at gunpoint at Hollister and Turnpike....it was a long night and the Sheriff's helicopter is back up again in the area. The Sheriffs did a great job! Thank you from the neighborhood.

I can't wait to see the mug shots of these total losers on the wall of shame. I'm sure they aren't intelligent enough, or even care for that matter, but they could of easily killed an innocent neighbor that was in their home sleeping.

Watched the whole thing unfold.The house is at the north end of rosemead. gunfire. One lone cop arrives.Tells everyone to get down .Someone must of thought he was tough. Didn't listen. Cop persuaded him with 5 rounds from a assault rifle. Party over.

328491 - thanks for that post with a lot of detail - more or less what I heard. I awoke around about 2:40 or so - do not know why. Heard the multiple shots - and then the automatic fire, which was completely different and weird sounding. The cops got there almost immediately. Good work. Scary to have that in the neighborhood. Great to have EdHat and Roger for detailed news.

@328535 Rational people blame the ready availability of guns for the level of gun violence. And note that we don't hear about people being caught in a cross-stabbing or cross-fist-fight, but children and others being shot by stray bullets are all too common. Meanwhile we have people here referring to "losers" and "scum" when they have no information about who the people they are referring to are, or their circumstances ... some people may simply be trying to flee the violence. When I think of scum, I think of people with $100M IRAs.

Curious how people think KEYT should be reporting this. I'm not pro-local TV news, just curious. It's Saturday, they don't have a morning show as they do on weekdays. Should they cut in over the kids cartoons? Or are you saying they should be reporting on their website? That makes sense. They also are on Facebook, they could report there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. KEYT picks and chooses what they cover. Real news takes a back seat to social events, and other fluffy news. I watched them from the first wisp of smoke from the Jesusita fire desperate for info since that is where I reside and the coverage of that fire was better covered by the LA based news stations KCAL & KNBC. What's up with that?

Believe all the shootings started on Mayrum, (there is a suspected drug house there). At about 11:20 p.m. there were shots from a hand-gun, then about 2:00 - 2:30a.m. there was either very loud fireworks (later learned it was an automatic weapon fire). This preceeded the shootings around the Puente area. Think they are all connected. Later this a.m. sheriff and crew were investigating a Marijuana grow at the bike path and Turnpike Road.

There was an unusual amount of noise last night out on the area near Devereaux Point at approximately 2am and what sounded like a large firecracker. The party had gone on for several hours and then abruptly ended soon after.
