And Heather, we had Helms trucks here too! And Chicken Delight! Wish I had a better memory of it, I guess I was under 10. Absolutely yes on the eclairs.

Heather, I was thinking of Koelsch's the other day! Miss it a lot. I grew up in the Northside. And it's Mayo's Taqueria & Carniceria that is next door to the under-construction Our Daily Bread. I've been eating at Mayo's since it opened, and they have great prices on meat. Though I guess you have to be willing to cross that cultural border. :-) The owners are wonderful, kind and speak english; Roberto the butcher is a sweetheart, but talks to fast for me!

Love Daily Bread!!! My favorite is the Olive Bread...the staff is sweet and the owners are very generous...I will miss stopping there to buy bread on my way back from the Farmer's Market.

Like Our Daily Bread. Workers remember me; they have good plain croissants. Workers are likely treated well as they stay on for years. Ambiance is great - small - like a European business. I go downtown a lot; but will probably not go to de la Vina.....guess it depends on the parking as de la Vina is a nightmare as far as traffic.

Our Daily Bread is a "local favorite" so it is defended against any evidence to the contrary. It is expensive and adequate. Want a decent baguette for a decent price? Try the Von's at La Cumbre.

Remember Koelsch's bakery in 5 Points? Boy, did it smell good in there. My daughter loved their smiley face cookies and I always got their apricot madelines.......now, I'm really reminiscing...any of you who grew up in L.A. or Orange Co., remember the Helms's bakery truck that came down your street (bread, donuts, eclairs)? Oh, god, guess I'll go eat a carrot : (

We really like ODB and the ambience and the breads. But I do miss AEB - Aficionado European Bakery - wish they'd come back!

I LOVE ODB & will be so sad to see them leave downtown. The bakery items are wonderful, the soup is great & staff remembers me.

In general, I've been underwhelmed by ODB but, now that they're relocating to a few blocks from me, I'll likely try them again. Place I really miss from many years ago is the German Bakery, in same block of DLV, where Cino De Mayo is now. Now that was an original, old world-type bakery.

I went to Our Daily Bread once on the suggestion of a friend. Wow..what a mistake! I bought a couple of cookies that ended up being bland and stale, but still cost $1 apiece. How do you screw up cookies? Well, patronize Our Daily Bread and you'll find out!

Our Daily Bread is moving to the old Mimosa restaurant location, De La Vina and Alamar. Parking across the street (Alamar).

I really miss Aficionado Bakery and their old world rustic bread. We're always disappointed in ODB loaves.

Boy, talk about different experiences, I just love going to ODB. It reminds me of all the old bakeries I.ve been to all over the state. They started disappearing in the late 70's. I never have had anyone treat me rudely, except for some of the CUSTOMERS. So when they move to DE La Vina, I'll be following right behind them. Don't like going downtown anyway.

367. Whatever you do, don't tell the female owner of ODB your thoughts, or dare to make any suggestions. A good friend of mine, years ago, mentioned to owner how sorry she was that the wonderful pasta salad recipe had been changed. The owner's reply: "Well, If you don't like it, go somewhere else!" No kidding. How's that for customer service?

Where on De La Vina is the ODB going? I knew Thrasher was leaving, but I didn't know that ODB was going also. I have mixed feelings about ODB. The prices are way too high. The coffee isn't as strong as it used to be. To go Coffee cups are too small. It's a terrible layout on the inside. I get my coffee cup, fill with coffee, go to other side to get my cream, sugar. Not enough room for one person, let alone when it's busy with lots of people in there. I'm surprised nobody's had coffee spilled on them. And, half the time the coffee has run out, or the creamer is empty, or no more butters, or sugar.... And, it's always messy / dirty looking on that center thing. But, I love the bread. I used to get that Dill with salt on the top, but they started adding jalapenos and ruined it.
