Addendum: Everyone who has a problem with mice/rats MUST keep food in metal or glass containers or in refrigerator. If you prevent easy access to food, your rodents will go elsewhere. Don't leave out pet food or bags of birdseed or any food on or under counters. If you keep your food items out of reach, you won't have to kill any innocent creatures. Thank you for always showing compassion and kindness toward all beings, including green and growing things. Having to Zap rodents is a terrible thing. Just a few preventative steps can save furry little lives.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't ever use Glue Traps! ! ! They are the most cruel and barbaric pest control devices ever invented. They should be outlawed completely and forever. ROGER AND REXSB, I hope you see this. The straight dope on the RatZapper: The one I have takes four "AA" batteries. You put in the batteries and carefully place small bits of peanuts and shelled sunflower seeds (or black oil sunflower seeds in shell are great) at the very very back of the trap. You make a TINY trail of little bits of peanuts/seeds leading into the trap, putting this food inside the trap and maybe one or two little bits in front of it. AVOID getting any kind of food or crumbly bits anywhere near the electrical "plate," which is located on the floor of the trap, inside and near the back. (Food under the plate will trigger a "false signal" that you have zapped a rodent.) This is really all so easy. You then carefully place the trap next to a wall. Somewhere in the pathway of these rodents. OR you can place it where you last saw a mouse or woodrat feeding----or evidence of feeding (like uneaten, chewed up bits of food). (Atop a kitchen counter, atop a desk is okay.) You set the trap down gently, so as to avoid getting the food inside under that "hot" plate. You set the swtich on top. It has a red end that displays, which will indicate it is on. BUT, as you switch it on, the red light will blink ONCE. The next morning, you will see the little red light blinking slowly. This means you have killed your mouse/rat. I take my furry little dead friend out into the garden and bury him/her as fertilizer for a favorite plant. Add a bit of water, to help decomp. The bait food will fall out when you tip out the rodent. Replace this food and reset trap same spot as before. Rats and mice tend to follow each other's scent trail to food. The batteries should last long enough to kill at least five or more rodents, or... [ more ]

Try calling again and when they ask for the last 4 digits of your social security number just type in 4 # signs or symbols that aren't numbers. It'll say it doesn't understand. Just keep doing that. Eventually I always get a service rep cuz the recording can't process the call. Worth a try. Good luck. Like your crazy neighbor you should NOT have to deal with this jerk's crap either. The universe does like to test you doesn't it? The fact that you stayed off alcohol and drugs after losing your girlfriend and best friend makes me have SO much respect and admiration for you. I know I'm not alone in that. When you're getting down on yourself remember the incredible strength you've exhibited and be proud of what you've accomplished, not what you haven't. Keep on truckin'.

Rex from what I understand it frys the mouse but it's quick it takes 4 D batteries. I really don't want to go that way but I really don't want to get another illness like mennigitis my little house reaks of peppermint oil and generic vicks it's not going to work forever..The bucket and the peanut butter was a joke. Ones gotta do what one has to do...The cats are retired they just watch them run by. I don't know if it makes those noises but Shakey told me he accidently stuck his hand in one at work and it ZAPPED the HELL out of him his hand was numb for awhile.

Roger, could you tell us more about the mouse zapper? I have a resident mouse who's making a circuit from the kitchen to the living toom and back and he/she stays away from the sticky traps I've put out. I gave up hantavirus for lent and don't want it now. The mouse isn't paying me rent and he/she has refused my kind invitations to leave under its own power, so I'm going to have to smite the little jerk. Does the zapper you're talking about spark and make a zapping noise when it encounters a mouse, like bug zappers do? That might actually be kind of cool.

And Roger, not cool putting someone's name and information out there like that. All you have to do is tell the bill collectors that they have an incorrect phone number and they will stop calling you.

Roger. Send every bill collector that calls a registered letter with return receipt requested telling them what the situation is and that they are to stop calling you or you will turn this over to your attorney. If you have a friend that is an attorney - and no, I am not one - then CC them on the letter even if you do not really send it to them. That usually stops them.

Hang in there Roger....we know what you do sometimes isn't easy. As for the pesky mese..old of pepperment. put on cotton balls or little dishes and place around the area they come in. They don't like the smell so won't come in.

Roger, I have a lot of depression issues myself and your advice is spot on, keep busy and find reasons to live, hard times fade. Ha, I also worked at St. Vincents and had my share of getting beat up on, it could get wild there sometimes! For mice those sticky traps work really good too, and they are cheap. But the mice do stick to them so you have to dispose of them and they don't necessarily die right away... but they worked better than anything else we tried and we didn't want to use poison because we had little pets that might find a poisoned mouse and get poisoned.

Very good words of Wisdom Roger! "this too shall pass" Is what I always tell myself when life is not going as I think it should. Then I look at the blue sky and I'm so glad I moved from the gloomy Pacific Northwest. Its a great place to visit. 28 years of living up there really makes me appreciate our sunny days.

It breaks my heart when I hear of another suicide. The adage 'he/she had everything to live for' doesn't cut it when you are severely depressed. Rich, poor, young, old, all you see is no end to the grayness and despair. Dog bless you Roger for your advice. I couldn't agree more. STAY BUSY. I was hospitalized 3 times for attempts when I was a young woman. I don't have the depression any more but I remember thinking that dying would be a huge relief.
