Nope I remember the Firemen from station 2 BBQing the meat Tri Tip and chicken Marty Bloom was threre one year. I do believe it was alittle before your time. Richard was the first manager at the shelter. A fella named Norm from DC ran it for awhile after that. I don't think he liked the politics about the whole thing he wasn't there very long. And then this last fella came in started with threatening the gas stations on the corner for selling King Cobras. Boy! Everybody and their Mamas, even Grand Mas came down on those places..I think those were the first two businesses singled out and slammed totally violiated by the shelter. No other business in the neighborHOOD knows how bad it could get..Thank Dog for the MCA Comming along when they did..Things need to be even here we may all HATE eat others guts but we need to get along. I might be wrong about Tri County Produce (Sorry about that John)..

Station 2 has never had a BBQ. Sorry Roger. You might want to ask the folks at Tri County- I don't believe they ever had one for the Casa either. I remember when before it was the CASA, it was Fiesta Furniture... THEY had BBQ's -perhaps you got your BBQ's confused.

Where is Mayor Schneider? Shouldn't she actually lead on this hot-button issue and help find a solution? I see an utter lack of leadership on her part.

I totally supported the shelter in the beginning..But many of the homeless on the street did not support the shelter. I would like to see everyone getting along. The shelter in the begging was very corrupt there were things going on then too. But every year when the shelter opened up for Winter residences the shelter, Station 2 Firemen and I believe Tri County produce would get together and have a huge BBQ not just for the residences but for everyone.. It was pretty cool..That hasn't happened for along time now.

006 - Are you kidding? Tri-County Produce NEVER supported the shelter going in. They helped pull together the East Beach Coalition to oppose it. Typing this over on your Casa Esperanza computer, are you?

Homeless lnc. is to Santa Barbara what the military industry is to America. Both have a death grip on their hosts.

I used to live on the corner of Puerto Vallarta and Orilla del Mar, and after they put in Casa Esperanza, my house was right smack in between it and a main hobo hangout, Dwight Murphy field. My trash cans were rummaged through on a daily basis, and my car was broken into more than once. The point of this story is that no matter where you put a homeless shelter, problems will radiate out in many directions. My answer is to NOT HAVE ONE.

All the City has to do is research the PD call logs on the 100's of calls they respond to each year related to the vagrants staying at the Casa or loitering, peeing, drinking, drug sales, panhandling or fighting within 500 feet of the Casa. As someone who deals directly with their "clients", I can tell you that they do NOT want help with housing, getting off drugs and alcohol or going back to jail- They want a free meal and a place to decompress after traveling from a far to get here. The Casa is a FAILED social experiment and needs to CLOSE DOWN! The $1 million dollars of City money that goes to this failure needs to be directed to services for City RESIDENTS!

Just to remind everyone several Milpas Street business owners supported the homeless shelter when it was seeking approval back around 8 years ago. One of the businesses supporting the shelter was and is Tri County Produce.

I agree with you, Amara; I have a box in that post office, didn't choose it but was moved there when they closed the one on Milpas. I would like to close it out and go elsewhere.

It is a crying shame and a scandal that the citizen cannot proceed with his life as usual.

I wish those business owners luck in working this out. They are suffering needlessly. I currently have a post office box in the annex near the place and I have seen the area become worse and worse over time. I am in the process of notifying those who send me mail at that station about my new home address so hopefully I can close out the box by the end of the year and not have to go into that area again.
