That bike has a gas engine on it. I wonder how fast he was going? Those things can do about 40mph. Hope he had a helmet.

I was bicycling on the bikepath that runs behind Auhay. The CHP were questioning a young man dressed in a white shirt. This was on Atascadero Drive. The young man looked very clean cut.....and was standing at attention as the CHP officer was kinda "in his face". He looked like a good kid; I hope everything turns out OK for him and of course the accident victim. Please remember; it was an accident. We've all done things in haste that we regret later.

7931.... I can't say that I agree with you. "Accidents" happen without willful intent but this has all the markings of a very stupid move that should be punished to the full extent of the law. It's one thing to "gun it" to get ahead of a bicyclist and maliciously cut the bicyclist off but it's another to have a collision with a bicyclist and flee the scene. Ethics are those values taught in the home.

Zero discussion of the ranking buttons? FOUR choices?!! silly. Just make it a "problem" button. I've written "Ed" before re: deletable statements. It's been quite effective. And the stuff that's been deleted lately and the threads that have been shut down or closed to the public? I don't get it. This is not an improvement to me. Quite bad, in fact. See you in the "deleted" section.

If you hover your cursor over each button, you should get a little readout. From left to right: mean, offtopic, snarky, whiney.

Ah, thanks! Good for them for being responsive. Will there be a competition as to who can be the most mean, the most snarky?

Ask the neighbors in the neighborhood where a teen male driver might live. This area is a known traffic fail! There are only a few streets up that way.

I see those motor bikes all around town and most of the time don't have helmets on and are always running the lights and not stopping at the stops signs. I'm not saying that the driver wasn't at fault I'm saying I'm not surprised that the bike was hit.

Yeah, we have one of those types of bike riders on Valdez. He never wears a helmet, never stops at stop signs and likes to ride on the sidewalk. I'm hoping that the injured rider is not one of those types of riders and recovers fast. And it is NEVER an accident when it's a hit and run. Should be mandatory jail time...

NEVER "gun it" to pass a cyclist and then make a right turn in front of them. It's obviously a recipe for disaster. If we're going to ticket drivers for turning across a crosswalk with a pedestrian in it, drivers should definitely be ticketed for this unsafe maneuver as well. I wouldn't be surprised if this practice turns out to be responsible for a lot of the bike vs. m.v. accidents that we're always reading about. Hey drivers: YOU ARE OPERATING A LETHAL WEAPON! BE RESPONSIBLE.
