Perhaps they wouldn't need a dive team if they hadn't waited a week to begin collecting evidence. I sincerely hope this man's family gets closure and the officer who made the call not to investigate the crime scene is held accountable for that embarrassing mistake.

I'm still going with a hit on a CIA operative until otherwise informed. Très interessant.

The Sheriff's Depatment had a dive team and I think they still do. Also, the FBI and PD should be looking into his client investment accounts (they probably are), in particular those in which an investor took a big hit the past few years!

The New-Press reported this morning that local police departments don't have a dive team and that is why a dive team from the Los Angeles FBI was called in to search the water.

Thanks for the posting, I've heard nothing about it but then the only local news I get is from EdHat as the Newspress is not very good and the local TV station is for tourists. Thanks EdHat!

The man was an owner of a local winery, and a lawyer. Not your typical "young drunk/high kid who hopped the fence" and fell over the cliff at shoreline. They also mentioned autopsy results indicated foul play.

Perhaps outside help is needed because local investigators declared his death was the result of a fall (even though his body was quite a way from the bottom of the stairs) and didn't launch any kind of investigation for several days and numerous high tides and public tramplings.

I just hope that his family is able to find some sort of comfort in the continuing investigation in his death. If left up to the local news, and/or papers we may never know what really happened or what they found.

594, Haven't you watched any CSI or similar t.v. programs or movies? The public isn't invited because that would be an open invitation to "contaminate" the evidence. If this is a homicide (sure gives every indication so far), the authorities don't want or need any "extra" help. Heck. Even the perp could join in and plant something to put the investigation off track. Shakey, I don't think this victim would be witness protection material. From everything I've read and seen, Santa Barbara wouldn't be a great place to stash a protected eyewitness or mafia bookkeeper or whomever. It is too small town here.

I'm wondering why the FBI ? Is there a serial killer around, with all the bodies along the beaches in the past few months ? Or is the man who died in the witness protection program ? Why the FBI ?

Maybe if they told the public what they were looking for and offered a reward, they'd find it. I would imagine a lot of folks might splash around in the surf searching through the sand and help out. The dive operation, as covered by keyt, looked a bit feeble. It's a sad situation and quite mysterious.

They obviously suspect foul play, maybe he had a bullet hole in him... guess eventually we MAY find out something about what happened but you never know.

Just read the Noozhawk article which was mentioned in another post on this situation. I think we don't know much, as very little info has been released so far.

What DO we know? All i know is that someone apparently fell to their death from the top of the cliff. So now it looks like they suspect foul play?
