Walking to Adams is scary. They need to write some SERIOUS tickets along Los Positas for speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks (even if the light was still yellow when you were half a block away), and for disregarding the crossing guard's stop sign. Passing over the double yellow line around cars waiting for the lids to finish crossing is another (fortunately rare) dumb stunt, as is turning right on a red light without coming to a full stop outside the crosswalk and taking a good look around before proceeding.

Anyone go by La Cumbre Junior High School? On the fence at the corner of Modoc and Portesuello there is a big poster "Walk to Shool" (sic).

So maybe Johnny can read, but he can't spell.

Hooray for squirrels! (See end of 404's list.) I looked out my bathroom window two days ago, to see a squirrel traipsing along the top of my neighbors' new 8' fence. It made me happy to see that this bin Laden compound-style fence has provided entertainment and a "corridor" for critters.
First time I have seen a squirrel anywhere near my property. "Squirrel Awareness Month" rocks!
I, too, used to walk a mile each way, every day, to and from school, starting at age four. Then I rode my bike (SBHS). Every kid should be hoofing it or biking it, if the distance is not too much more than two miles each way. Parents are far too paranoid and coddling now. Teach the kids safety and set them free.

It's the 3rd and I'm exhausted. Beware, I declare Everything Awareness Month.

Is there a list somewhere that has all of the national "do something or be aware of something" days available? I had no idea it was national walk to school day. It is also dwarfism awareness month and national fire prevention week. How do the days, weeks, months get designated and where is the list?

Too bad its not everyday. If the distance isn't too extreme, I suggest parents teaching kids to at least ride their bikes to school. I did it from the time I was 6 up until high school.

Wish I hadn't got so lazy after that.
