I take it the victim confided in them and didn't want the assault made public?

Even though I can see why the victim wanted it quiet, I have to agree with Shorebird.

As a recently retired educator of 32 years, I know every teacher & admin. person at ANY school site, regardless if it's public or private, HAS to report. No excuses! We're talking minors here for gosh sakes. I, also as a parent, wouldn't want it any other way.

A slap or a push can be considered assault. The term they used in the article was rape. I can understand gray areas in which making a big deal about routine kid stuff can cause more social trauma and ostracizing, but in this case there were 2 gils, 14 and 16 years old and 2 males charged with rape. this does not appear to be garden variety pigtale pulling. They kept silent because the parents and maybe the girls did not want to report it and now the victim feels guilty and responsible. Sad. Seems odd that both parents chose to sweep it under the rug. Another possible senario could be that the sex was consensual, the parents found out and the girl may have fabricated a different story to diffuse the situation. Either the parents and administrators did not act in their best interests of the girls or there is more to this story. Just trying to look at all sides. When I was in 10th grade, a black teachers aide took an interest in me, and we had an affair. Parents, be warned, if your children are not thoroughly loved, things like this will contnue to happen.

Reminds me of the Penn State mess. There are clear laws about this which are not up to interpretation. The administrators should have advised the parents that they have a legal obligation to disclose this type of matter to the proper authorities. What outcome were the parents expecting when they told the administrators? How could both a Principal and Dean be so ignorant? I do not believe they were trying to cover anything up - they just used very bad judgement.

That's the thing about violent felonies. The perp rapes that victim in more than one way.

Where you there? Did you speak with all parties involved? What do you know that hasn't been made public? How are you so sure it was rape? And yes rape is serious. But just as bad is a rush to judgment without the factset.

@230, what a weird comment. When I was a senior in high school, I was a teachers aide for another class...

HEY JOYCE - Nice work! Now will you PLEASE focus on crooked law enforcement personnel who are running amok in this county? Thank God for Joe Allen. Not a pretty job, but someone has to do it. I sure wish it would be you, because you might win. Please don't tell me it's too close to home. Thank you for your help. I'll vote for you at the next election if you have the gut to go after one of your own with the same zeal with which you went after the school administrators.

what is pathetic, at the end of the Noozhawk story, is Walker's statement of being "pissed off" and how the victim "blames herself". well maybe if walker stood up and took responsibility for the choices HE MADE- which clearly contradict STATE LAW, then from the beginning, this victim wouldn't have had to endure the consequences of walkers failure to comply.
