Well so much for the whole "gang members only fight other gang members" theory. 17 years old and already trying to kill another human - I wonder if prison will "rehabilitate" this kid. Nope. I've had with the gang violence here. It's time for Charles Bronson to come to town!

It’s a good thing we don’t have any gang problems in this town. Just think if we did, our city might have to divert money from brick crosswalks and other pet projects that serve the tourists to fight the gang problem (which we don’t have). Maybe an after school program about safe knife handling practices is in order for the youth of this fair town of ours?

Yes, violent crimes are generally down. But it always gives me pause to consider what will occur after a big natural disaster. We spotted a couple of looters even during the Gap fire. Imagine what these dudes will be up to following the big one?

774 your numbers appear to be off looking at data those years (county and city combined) seems to have had a high of some 800 some murders related to gangs with a murder rate for both of under 2000 total. A number still to high, but also referencing years that encompass both the LA Riots and the crack cocaine epidemic high points is a little misleading. Current numbers show murder rates in Los Angeles (city and county combined) down into the 600 or so range since 2010.
