I wear my hat backwards half of the time- it keeps my hair out of the way and I do not always want my face shaded or my vision obstructed. Sideways is or was a fad, and is not as common, nor is it the same thing is backwards which is actually comfortable. The OP is obviously over 60, although there are many very cool seniors, including my parents, who are in their 70's and would never write the original post. As an avid Edhat reader I find the OP insulting, even though getting old an uncool is part of many people's lives.
I'd love to see the OP's "fashion statement" - I'm sure I'd get a kick out of it...
