I'm sure they don't actually mean "real" housewives...the ones with no maids, or nannies, no catered dinners, no folding laundry in high heals. I haven't watched the shows, but I've seen interviews with some of these women. I'm not judging those who have maids or nannies (I would LOVE that at times!), the title of the shows can be misleading at times!

Loud Family meets the 21st C. - only as others have predicted, in order to be "entertaining" it won't be "pretty". The bigger question is: what will this do to the Santa Barbara brand? Nothing good.

Oh brother... Anyone remember the TV show "Santa Barbara" which aired in the 80's? When I was a concierge at a local resort in Montecito, guests used to come to our desk in the lobby and ask if "that's really what goes on in Santa Barbara." I would tell them "that real life happenings in SB were much, much more naughty." The looks on many of thier faces were priceless. They never got straight answers from me about the "naughtiness." Pure entertainment!

498 - This may burnish the brand a little with some superficial "glitz and glam" since our brand has been tarnished for tourists in recent years by urinating, panhandling bums. And, of course, here at EdHat we'll be able to hone our level of "snark." Woo-hoo, bring it on!

I hope they have on some artist/hippy chicks from Montecito/Mountain Dr who have home births, breast feed their 5 year olds, grow weed in the backyard with the free-range chickens, compost heaps, and vegetable gardens. It would be a refreshing twist to the Bravo show brand.

Is it just me, or does this sound almost as interesting as watching paint dry? Seriously, this town is too small and way too boring to warrant this show, but then again, the vacant, vacuous lives of the plastic riddled women of other cities has been able to fill an hour...yawn. Of course if they make it, I'll watch it. It's not supposed to air until a year from now, maybe by then they'll run out of story lines and scrap it...

Shows like this have to get clearances to film, that's why they always end up eating at the same restaurants, going to the same clubs and stores, etc. Can't wait to boycott whichever businesses choose to support this nonsense. It would be a fun edhat poll to vote on which businesses you think will be featured on the show.

I already know two "housewives" who have gone to a casting call. They had to sign a non-disclosure - but I got some details. You get $5,000.00 per episode, most story lines/events are produced vs. just happen. They want to know how big/opulent your house is - since filming will take place their at times. Age must be between 35-50. Can not have a rap sheet. Husband must not have any IRS troubles. Had to take a 2 hour psychological exam. If selected to next round will have to take a polygraph examination.

Real housewives, huh? Most aren't wearing heels and having a 3 Apple-tini lunch, and then visiting the docs for a Botox refill. Now, if they want to see someone shopping at the grocery store, running errands, sitting in traffic, I guess people will watch anything. Sounds a little boring though.

Casting idea: make all of the above-mentioned local celebrities compete first to get on the show -- a pre-show show a la dancing with the stars but instead they'd have to host a cooking show, play polo competitively, prove knowledge of financial instruments, and demonstrate a talent. They would then be voted on the show by viewers. During the course of the show one will lose their family fortune to bad investment management, one will have a plastic surgery mishap, and one will try to drop out but be followed to an ashram in Nepal and then cleverly spin off a new lifestyle travel show and home brand: Real Ashrams of Nepal.

It is beyond me why people put themselves on television to completely embarass themselves. I do hope there is a lack of participation from the women of Santa Barbara. I have never watched a "housewives" show and having one filmed here will not change that. If Bravo wants to have a show titled real housewives they should focus on women that actually stay home and care for their family rather than the likes of the women they have used on the past series. Show some class SB just say no.

Originally I believe the intention was to share lives of woman living out their days and having a good time. That sounded enjoyable and a chance to escape our own day-to-day lives. Seeing women supporting one another to pursue further endeavors of fashion, books, singing etc… what it has unfortunately turned into is narcissistic woman abusing each other and it is getting worse. The yelling and berating of each other is out of hand and only because this is what gets ratings???Sadly It doesn’t teach young women to be successful, just hateful and frankly who needs to watch that on TV?
