It might be nice if we taught safe gun handling IN school (mandatory). We have a generation out there, many of whom have not been taught basic firearm safety, often in the name of sheltering them from guns. This is dangerous as guns are as common as this ignorance.

First off let me say I'm a gun owner and always will be. I agree an armed society is a polite society. With that being said not everyone needs to own a gun. Citizens should have the right to bear arms but that doesn't mean every person in america needs a pistol in their waistband. Responsible, mature and safe citizens should have to right to protect themselves and others from extreme bodily harm. Cops can take minutes to respond, so a logical person will take precautions to ensure their safety in those crucial minutes/seconds.

People can't even use a car in the correct manner, how can you expect people to use a gun in the correct manner, especially under pressure. Not saying I'm for "disarming" citizens, but I'd bet there would be a large escalation in violence if everyone under the sun had a gun. I can just picture some stressed out idiot pulling it to scare someone or win a fight or whatever, then someone gets shot. If you want a real look at what happened when everyone had guns, look at the wild west.

How would this incident have been different if the students in the class were armed? Would they really have drawn and fired upon a fellow student with a clear plastic pellet gun?

That is some ridiculous hyperbole right there about totalitarian regimes and disarming individuals.

Glad to see the above comments. When in actuality, compared to the amount of schools in the nation, it’s really a small chance.” I think that says it all. Support the NRA and CRPA. The small arms treaty is quietly moving thru the system. Only Totalitarian regimes want to disarm the people.

Good points. But this was not a gun it was a toy at an adult school. What was the crime? I know he was strange but when that gets outlawed lots of people in sb will be in jail.

Unless you live in first world countries that aren't America, in which case incidences of gun violence are shockingly low. Guns aren't necessary to maintain a low crime rate. (I'm not saying you can't own guns.)

Ever notice how "active shooters" are only active in gun free zones? If criminals knew that there may be armed citizens willing to stand up to them to defend their lives, maybe less of this crap would happen. D.C. has the most strict gun prohibitions in the union, yet they have one of the highest homicide rates by gun. Gun control takes guns from law abiding citizens, not criminals.
