It makes me incredibly sad that they felt the need for a Sheriffs Deputy at the meeting. I don't practice any organized religion, but would never try to do harm to anyone or try to stop anyone from practicing that which pleases them. What you are seeing is why I dislike all organized religion. As far as I can see, they have done nothing but cause harm. The attitude from all is that only they know the truth. Well, none of it is my personal truth.

I know no Muslims personally but I have no problem with them putting up a mosque there as long as all local and state laws and codes are met. How is this any different then Jews putting up a temple or buddhist doing the same? Or for that matter the latest church to go in on the corner of Calle Real and Kelloge where the mattress store was or the New Life Church using SBCC on Sunday? I never never heard a word against those two.

I think every religion should have a place where it's followers can meet, worship and feel a sense of peace and fellowship. I wish them well.

As long as they don't try to stop me from drawing Mohammed (or anything else) I don't care. Freedom of expression is the one 'religion' that all Americans truely believe.

I agree with 872, but only if the TSA screens everybody coming and going from every public place everywhere. (That's how ridiculous of a statement that is.)

In extreme times, the more extreme religions seem to become more popular. Did I hear once that the enduring religions on Earth have all come out of harsh desert regions where it is a struggle to survive? What bothers me is that these religions that are all about the afterlife- their followers seem to spend an inordinate amount of time imposing their views on others in the current life. Among all of the scarcity in our society seems to be a scarcity of tolerance. How do we get back to that?

Glad the Islamic center is going up. I know a number of the members there and they're extremely warm, generous and caring. They've been very supportive to all members of the interfaith community in Santa Barbara. Bravo to them.
