Intresting about the whole thing I wasn't here when there were riots there back in the 70's but from what I have heard, and what I hear now I'm surprised the Sheriff don't run all the trouble makers out..

I used to get 4 or 5 of those alerts every time something happened, but finally managed to get myself off the list. If you have the new iphone operating system, you can set it so that only calls and texts from specific people ring at night.

If you look closely at the crime that has happened in IV in the last year, very little of it has been committed by actual UCSB or CC students. There's a lot of things that live in IV that just never left after they got kicked out/quit school plus there's the misguided that think it's cheaper there than in SB or Goleta (a complete fantasy). It hopefully won't distract the students from binge drinking, protesting the rate hikes, annoying the townies and getting their cars towed away - some of us gotta make a living somehow.

FYI-I deleted myself from the alert system and I still get alerts on my cell phone but not my email. The deletion was supposed to remove me completely from the system. Didn't work. Not good in the middle of the night.

744: I hear ya! They always wake me at 3:00 a.m. I won't turn off my phone at night because I have teenagers and elderly parents. 'Nuff said.

I feel so bad for them. A gang of men that allows a friend to rape a women is beyond shameful. As a fellow UCSB employee, I wish the alert system separated IV from campus. There has been so much crime in IV this summer.

765 These are not all rich kids or students causing problems, the lowlifes found out how easy the picking are in IV

I think it all amount to little boys not getting "theirs", and in a society such as ours, they think they deserve it. Well they don't, so they don't and then they just beat people up.

I also work at UCSB, and this past summer has been really bad with incidents in IV. I am tempted to remove my phone number from the emergency-alert system, as it's almost always waking me up in the middle of the night about crime in IV, but I want to stay on the list in case something bad happens on campus during a workday.

Hell of a crappy way to start college! I hope this warns the kids to be extra vigilant and responsible for their own and each others safety. There's miscreants out there.

The Sheriff's Department needs to set up sting operations to kick these boneheads out of school!
