The DMV made a mistake - the driver really wanted trs-80 - his first radio shack computer.

I just verified with a Lockheed engineer I know that the "SR-71" has never had the designation "TSR-71". The ONLY website that (mistakenly) refers to the plane as "TSR-71" is cloud9photography, thus the Google hits and images Dan and Rex refer to. I think we can put this one to bed.

There are no lights at Hope and Foothill which don't intersect. That Mercedes is at La Cumbre and Foothill.

I think REXOFSB (and probably Dan) are guilty of the fallacious argument "argumentum ad Googlum", which is "If I see it on Google, it is so."

Do I have to do everything? 666, (no relation, I assume) I didn't Google TSR-71>images, I did a regular search. If you do the same you will see the third result is a photo, not the one I posted. Sure it might be some guy's initials, but I found the shape and color of the car, plus the plate, interesting. Rex, thanks for the laughs.

Sorry, just because a picture of an SR-71 comes up when Googling "TSR-71" doesn't mean the SR-71 was EVER designated TSR-71, which it wasn't. This guy's plate has nothing to do with the SR-71. I'll lay good money that his initials are TSR and he was born in 71.

@MACPUZL: You nailed it-I had to look closely, but you can definitely make out Conception & the Channel Islands(even Catalina) Maybe thats why Dan picked this photo-duhh

Oh dear ... let's hope we don't next hear something from Roger's scanner about Dan's demise due to mysterious circumstances, something to do with a poisoned umbrella tip .... Yikes. You know Dan, they could TELL you, but then they'd have to KILL you!

I couldn't help noticing that the configuration of the two vehicles you posted is somewhat different. I doubt that they are both the TRS-71.

Yikes--I just noticed that the driving-while-photographing reference was directed at the PLANE, not the Mercedes! Mea culpa. It's early. The Coke Zero hasn't kicked in yet.

1) By Googling both "TSR71" and "SR71" you get the same plane that Dan's talking about. 2) No, California license plates can't have dashes. 3) As I looked at the first picture, I thought, uh oh, someone's going to squawk lest Dan be driving while taking the picture. Sure enough, someone did. But if that person had looked closely, he/she would have noticed that the traffic is completely stopped at a red light. Life is so complicated for those of us who think.

614, I would not have posted this without checking on that. It is known as TSR-71. Anyone know if you can put a dash on a license plate? 599, I certainly wasn't on my bicycle.

Of course, the owner of the car might have the initials "TSR," and this is the 71st plate the DMV has issued with those initials. Years ago I requested my first name and last initial as my license plate. As that was taken, I was given my second choice, which was my first name followed by a number. I ended up with my name, followed by the number 3.

The SR-71 in the photo is most definitely not inverted. You can see land below in the upper right corner, perhaps even Point Conception, and that's ocean far below. You can also see the fuel leaks they suffered until the airframe heated up at speed.

could stand for 'THE' SR71--as in the fast and stealthy one. SR71 is flying inverted in the photo. Let's hope not in the Mercedes.

Doubtful, as the plane you are referring to was the SR-71, not the TSR-71.
