They are using this big brush cutter on the side of the mountain. There are a lot of side roads where the cars are supposed to wait for the pilot car, but they don't. The gap they have is ridiculous and very dangerous, they don't need to let it back up for miles and miles. Glad you weren't hurt. They should involve the CHP in between the gaps of traffic, so no cars can get through

Were the speeding cars going towards Santa Barbara, or towards Santa Ynez? There are numerous driveways between the control points and they do not all get warning signs to wait for the pilot truck.

The CHP website says this project will continue through Friday September 28. I need to drive 154 dailly, and will use Old San Marcos Road till Saturday.

You can call or email CALTRANS with complaints, they take them very seriously. See their website.

Why do people automatically blame the poor shmoes working the site for the deviant behaviours of "responsible citizens"? The flagmen/persons are in contact with each other by walkie talkie to direct the flow of traffic and CLEARLY some hotshots thought they were too good to have to stop with traffic like everyone else. Blaming CALTRANS is the ultimate in shortsightedness. People complain about bloated bureaucracies, 5 guys leaning on a shovel while only 1 actually digs etc. Until something like this happens and everyone whines the government isn't doing enough after we've gutted their budgets.

No need to use Old San Marcos. This construction is on the north side of Los Olivos. So it is at the north 101-154 interchange, not the SB one

Good to know that there is also a project on 154 north of Los Olivos. This project is not construction, it is weed cutting between Santa Barbara and the 154 summit.
