What a surprise that the perps are both Hispanic. This might sound racist but it's not -- it's based on statistics.

I thought it might be based on eye witnesses or victims. My bad.

@121
I said the same exact thing when I heard about the guy who shot two deputies who tried to arrest him for child abuse in San Diego today. Based on statistics...not surprised it was a white guy. They really can't help themselves.

Hispanics commit many more crimes in our community than any other group. Why do we deny that statistical fact? Whether it's an assault, or a graffiti issue, or a stabbing, or a shooting, or a general assault; the statistics (not racism, just statistics) say that more than likely, it will be a Mexican (Hispanic) who is the perpetrator. And PLEASE don't nanny this down, because simply citing statistics doesn't make this post racist. We're dealing with numbers here.

There should be NO reason why anyone would be so desperate these days to rob anyone. In the last 30 months the private sector has added 4.6 million new jobs in the US!!! That's 4.6 million reasons why this should not be happening - especially in SB where there are 15-20 percent of the population are one percenters!!!! Do NOT blame a sector of the population for committing these crimes. Thank goodness Helene is protecting our way of life.

Actually statistics show that whites are incarcerated more than other minorities.

drug ADDICTS are the reason. You can almost 100% that. When you are and addict nothing else matters unless you get high again. Life is the drug and people stop at nothing to get it.

138, share your facts or go home. There's no way that you can prove this without a biased link. And you haven't even provided that to us. So, no. Hispanics don't commit more crimes in our community than any other group....unless you're willing to not notice when it's a white person who commits a crime.

It's really foul that someone can pretend to hide behind "statistics" without actually linking to anything outside that person's head. Shame.

Based on the size of these two perps, I wonder how in the world they were able to rob someone and get away? 5'5" and 200 is quite large! She had to be a waddler, not a runner. I'd be interested to know the height and weight of the victim.

I searched for SB crime statistics by race and could not find a report. I did find a report that says Santa Barbara is safer than 17% of other cities in the United States. To give you some perspective Oxnard is considered safer than 35% of the cities in the United States. City officials might want to focus on the crime rate in this city.

MSSB - that's kind of a frightening statistic! Do you have a link you could post here?

With progress comes crime, and all those underground parking garages don't help either.

Not to excuse a strong arm robbery (especially 3 blocks from my apartment ;-) ), but only in regard to the excerpt above:

Estimates vary, but I believe most fall between 100K to 175K jobs per month that the economy needs to absorb population increase (adults newly entering the workforce plus immigration, both legal and illegal).

So 30 months would require 3.0 million to 5.25 million new jobs just to maintain the present rate of unemployment (which is about 22%, if measured the same way the government measured it in the 1980s).

In addition, it's very broadly recognized that part-time minimum wage jobs make up a significant portion of new jobs. Even working two or three of those will not replace a full-time middle-class career job of $40K and up.
