my phone network has never worked after a bigger earthquake. I wonder how useful this will be if cell towers are down for days..

"...I wonder how useful this will be if cell towers are down for days.."

Good point. But being well within the tsunami danger zone, the first thing I want to know is whether a quake is offshore, and then, what strength, distance — and direction, considering the islands could block a tsunami.

So assuming an offshore quake strong enough to generate a life-threatening tsunami would not necessarily affect the cellphone network, this app could be life-saving.

if you cant get to higher ground when the sirens blow, when the radios play, when the police are driving around with loud speakers... but you can when you look at your phone, then something else is going to get you first - like a brown recluse invasion or the invasive weeds - seriously, this app wont do you any good when the big one hits for the cell towers and service will be down and out.

The good old fashion radio is going to be your best bet for news and info when the next big quake hits. Make sure you have a good battery powered radio and batteries.
