Time to reopen state care institutions. Living on the streets is not a viable alternative for this population. State institutions should be their home.

Louis Almark Murdered by two local kids in Alice Keck Park back in the early 90's...Louis was a sober member of AA. He was reading his bible when attacked. He lingered in a Coma for 4 months at St. Francis hospital before he died. I think one kid got probation, one got little time the ringleader got 15 years he's probley out by now..

"A lot of college prank attacks on homeless in our area" -- maybe some corroborating data would be nice before casting blame to such a large group of people, eh 429?

There was a military prep school student murder of a vagrant in Alameda park, but it was much more than 15 years ago so it was not a "college kid" either.

Why are those preaching tolerance so often intolerant themselves? Please, why is that?

The stabbing at the Gazebo,26 yrs. ago, was by 4 youths from the military academy on Mission st.
They had a run-in earlier & sought revenge, but when they could`nt find the original perps, they settled on the man sleeping in the gazebo....his last words were "No my friends,no".
I`ve seen & heard things there late at night,as have others. [Ghost tour]

The stabbing in the 80's wasn't a prank, he was going to stab who he thought was a gang member that his group had a run in with earlier that day.

442 it must be nice to believe stuff happens just because you don't want to think it does.

Remember the dude who was killed by a college kid as a prank in Alameda park 15 years ago? I've lived here my whole life, too and I remember that. Stabbed to death in the gazebo. Yeah, I'd consider that a big issue!

Please, crimes against homeless people aren't always committed by other homeless people.

It sounds to me like the victim is scared of his attacker a man who hears voices and pounds alcohol. The suspect is not homeless but lives in an apartment in the area.

A college prank to hurt homeless? I have lived here my whole life and we have a lot of colleges here, I've never heard that one about SB college students...

A lot of the reason that there are a lot of homeless attacks here are because there are a lot of homeless people that fight with each other over territory, etc. and they attack each other. Or are hostile and get their butts kicked by someone who doesn't want to deal with it. But attacked by random college student just because? I don't think that's a big issue here.

Or maybe they are just terrified because they know that being homeless is something that a lot of people equate with criminality or deviantism?

Sadly, there are lot of attacks on homeless people in our area, for various reasons. It's often a college prank to hurt homeless.

I wouldn't go blaming the victim until we know the facts....chances are they are just victims of random violence. Either by another homeless person or some idiot who thinks it's funny to hurt someone weaker than them.

Victim is saying the assault occured 2 Days ago is refusing to identify suspect and is uncoorptive with police. So the call is cancelled..
