Will the SBBA actually remove the wasp/hornets? We have these guys, too, and while I don'tmind them too much, I don't like them so close to my front door. Thought I admit they are very neat to watch. Also, they went nuts buzzing the other night - anyone know why they might do that? They seemed agitated and I wondered if something was attacking the nest, but I couldn't see anything, and the nest a few feet away was fine & dormant. But they were all moving around & buzzing loudly (louder than during the day). We do have ants right now - could ants be attacking the nest?

My girlfriend has had a paper wasp nest just above the front door of her apartment in the fire alarm bell. 2 months now and they have never bothered us. They are actually kind of fun to watch, there is usually one gaurd that alerts the others when we come and go, and they watch us from their perch.

These are calm-tempered paper wasps and good pollinators. Again, for removing the nest yourself, if you feel you must, wait until full cool dark when they've gone dormant, then put a bag around it, nip it off at the stem and carry the whole thing out somewhere else. They always build a nest in one particular eave on our house, and some summers I am surprised to see the empty nest left over; never even noticed them.

Made me shiver as I am allergic and only one could kill me! Need to take the pen with me all the time and hope if something happens someone would help me if I could not do it myself.

I just hope that it is not near my house because my son would find a way to get attacked by them! Neat and scary as heck at the same time.

It's so funny. My 11-year-old pal and I were just talking about dragonflies------two minutes ago-----and then this is the first post I connect with on Edhat. How wonderful that other people appreciate the attributes and fineness of insects, and don't spray/poison them. Thank you for the great photos.
