We've seen way more bushtits in our yard than usual, this year.

Yay Edhat! I didn't know the name of these little guys - I call them "cloud birds" since they arrive in groups like moving clouds. Very cool. Bushtit is obviously a way better name.

Bush tit. They enter from the top, like a ratty shopping bag. Multiple birds (mostly daughters of dominant female) care for the young. Normally pretty conspicuous in their little groups, bush tits are really quiet and furtive around their nests, and you generally find them by accident well after the young are gone, even in familiar parts of your yard.

Very cool. If you Google bushtit bird and bushtit nest and click images you can see what they look like. Gotta love Google!

If that is a Bushtits nest, that is very cool indeed. Yes, getting a photo of one is next to impossible. We have giant oaks around our home and they flit through at lightening speed, it's difficult just to get a look at one for a nano-second! Love the sound they make when flitting about.

Not a wasp's nest, which is paper and larger and entirely different shape. That is a Bushtit's nest. The entrance/exit should be somewhere toward the top. We found one of these, many years ago. It had fallen from the Swamp mahogany (euc) in our front yard. We put it back, as best we could, nestlings and all. It is a myth that the parent birds will not return to a touched nest or nestling. How nice for you, to have this nest in your yard. Get some baby Bushtit photos for us, please. (That might be a challenge.)

My husband says Oriole's make their nests out of palm fibers. He said it looks like it could be a paper wasp nest. He said once they construct it they don't go out of it very much.

Looks like an oriole or bush tit nest. What birds do you remember frequenting your yard this spring?

The Natural History Museum has a wonderful collection of birds and their nests in the bird hall.

Not sure, but it looks like an oriole nest to me; although it seems to be the wrong time of year for it to show up.
