Please tell us it's not the peanut butter with flax seed. We eat that stuff nearly every day.

Kirkland Peanut Butter is better. Cheaper and the ingredients are better. TJs is a close second.

TJ's has a lot of recalls. More than any store I've ever purchased from. There's almost a weekly recall. What gives?

430: Proof please? I follow national news and CDC reports. Does TJ's have that many recalls? What I find interesting is that it's not TJ's that isn't releasing the info of which states the infections are in. I've found most news re: RI & NY & NJ, I think it was. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-peanut-butter-recall-20120924,0,5228064.story Federal health officials Saturday warned consumers not to eat a brand of Trader Joe’s peanut butter after a suspected outbreak of Salmonella infections caused at least 29 illnesses in 18 states. As part of a nationwide recall, Trader Joe’s has taken its Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter made with sea salt off store shelves and halted Internet sales of the product, which carries the SKU number 97111." AJC "The Pennsylvania Department of Health and Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Rhode Island Department of Health announced Friday that Trader Joe’s Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter made with sea salt may be linked to 29 cases of Salmonella Bredeney across multiple states." http://google2.fda.gov/search?q=trader+ ... *&filter=0 Or go to: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/p ... /index.cfm and type "Trader Joes Peanut Butter" into search box.

BTW the recall has expanded to include the flax seed peanut butter - crunchy and salted - you will have to google it yourself since I am not allowed to post a link

470p, I don't have "proof" but if you go into their stores (I frequent the one on Milpas) and look at their recall postings (sometimes at the registers, sometimes above where the item would have been found had it not been pulled) you will find that there are many, many recalls over a six to twelve month period. I'm sure there is also a listing on their site when it happens (they must have to list it someplace to warn customers who have already purchased a recalled item)...,but off the top of my head, I can think of four recalls since the beginning of summer. I believe the most recent was a salad that was pre-made by them, another was cheese and then there's the peanut butter. I'm pretty sure there was another, but I can't have total recall of everything, sorry! I'm NOT making this up, that's a lot of recalls in a short period of time for one store and it's reflective of an overall trend over many years of their recalls.

430 and 680, I see your point and agree. In our industrial food system, I think what we see at TJ's is their attempt at transparency. I am familiar with those little cards. I personally appreciate them. When you do read an in-depth news article or an epidemiology report, you see the extent of the problem, such as the recall of greens (spinach). Vons, Albertsons & Ralphs don't put up those notices; they just take the product off the shelves. The food items in question, like most food items, are distributed on a staggering scale, as I'm sure you know. Just my point of view, I'm not arguing. Thanks for your views. Oh, I'm 470p and will make even more of an effort to post under my screen name. I've been making a point of it. My main reason for not doing so is not wanting people to think I post "too much." Yep, I AM unemployed. lol

I was just there. The recall does include the flax seed/valencia peanut butter in the squat jar with the red lid. Damn. I love that stuff. I have an opened jar of it in the fridge right now but no one here's gotten sick. Not too salty and so nutritious. Once you've tried Valencia you can't go back!

My husband got food poisoning from the Trader Joes valencia peanut butter with flaxseeds on Saturday Sept 15. That brand has also been recalled according to TJs on DLV. They said ours was their first reported case with that brand. It's the squatty tub with a red lid. We KNOW it was the peanut butter because a pbj was the only thing he'd eaten that day. Then he spent 6 hours on the couch and in the bathroom alternately. Take it back to TJs if you have it. Hope no one else gets sick!

I hate to rock the boat but the news just said the recall has been extended to other varieties sold at TJ's. But when I was there today the recall only showed the two mentioned before. The Valencia... And also The Valencia with Flaxseed.. The news said to look online to see other varieties ...
