Did I miss something in the photos? I keep looking for a naked body or some genitalia but I cant find either. I always thought voyeurism had to do with deriving gratification from watching sexual acts or seeing naked people when they didn't know they are being watched. All I see in those photos is a wrecked car, some firemen, some cops and a guy with a neck brace. Help me out here, please.

Dan39: I did not say the UHs were breaking any law; I agreed with the voyeurism observation; seems to me reasonable to question how they got so close.

Seedlady, I'm going by the photos, and in no photo do I see a firefighter or CHP, or police officer approaching the U. H.er's like they are doing something wrong.

So I think it's up to you and 598P to show that they were breaking a law.

I am with SeedLady on this. It's my understanding (and experience a while ago) that a Press Pass is available only to Press employees. Urban Hikers probably get their press pass, if they have one, from the continued connection with Edhat.com (do a search for all their contributions to edhat via their scanner and hiking....)

These pictures (and others similar) are very much in the category of voyeurism and we do have a choice about looking at them or not. Perhaps there should be an Edhat nanny for photos or at least a warning?

I think its only normal to question how the UH's got so close while the rescue personnel were working.

My question is did they get in the way, even a tiny bit? If It was me or someone I loved being rescued from an overturned car, I'd want ONLY those public services personnel involved in the rescue to be anywhere around me.

There is a point at which photo journalism becomes voyeurism. I've not made a qualification yet in my mind about these types of photos, but they do cause me to feel uncomfortable. Not because of a queasy stomach but because they seem intrusive into the physical space. I'd not have any problems with the UH using a long lens; perhaps they did?

CalTrans constantly says that the corridor is low in rates of accidents.

I maintain that the corridor is accident-ridden and lacks many safety standards. The speed limit is too high and the entrance ramps are unsafe.

I listen to KCLU in the morning and there are constant accident reports along the 101 corridor through Montecito.

But no immediate plans to recify the situation.

Thank you for the excellent photos and the story, Urban Hikers.

About the Urban Hikers, I do believe they have press passes; I would assert they do, while not knowing, because of the quality of photographs they manage to get. Why question them? I thought Edhat was a local *news* site. We don't questions coverage from other sources.
I'm not attacking anyone, I just don't understand the interest in the UH'ers. I thank them again.

Dan, What conclusions did i jump to about the UHs? I just marveled at their ability to be so quickly on the scene of so many newsworthy events. And was simply wondering who they were. That's ok if you don't care who they are, but i was curious so i asked.

by the pictures, it didn't look like the air bag deployed?? Is that correct?

Well, 392, haven't you already jumped to conclusions about the Urban Hikers? I don't care WHO they are.

I think this is some of their best work. Great photos and the photos tell the story.

I think there are a few Urban Hikers in SB, who knows how many. Maybe they're taking applications? They must have a press pass to get that close to the scene.

WHO are the Urban Hikers and how were they able to stroll right into the center of an accident scene... in the middle of the freeway? Great shots, though. And before we jump to conclusions about texting while driving, remember that people lose control of their cars all the time, not always due to texting or other illegal behavior.

Still, that's gotta hurt. Gonna need more than a bag of ice for that hand.

Agree with 367, just what WAS the driver doing other than driving?

No major injuries, excellent ! Vehicle construction is amazing compared to even 10 years ago... regardless me thinks a texter was at hand.

Thank Odin no other car was involved.... though it makes one wonder what the driver was doing that so distracted him from his duty to drive safely if not for his friends then for the rest of the highway users.
