I don't understand the waiting in line thing. If there were limited amounts forever and nobody could get one in, like, another seven to ten days, then maybe I could understand it. But it's going to be available to everyone, eventually. What is so lacking in someone's life that they will line up for a PHONE? Maybe it's fun, if you do it with a group of friends or as a kind of adventure. But the people I've seen lining up always look anxious, frustrated and like they distinctly aren't having fun. I just...I don't get it!

iPhone5 - oh boy wow. Competing Android products have had the same technology for sometime with HD displays - so don't try to sell me on the retina stuff. And 327 is right - just finally getting 4G and turn by turn voice. Apple did not invent the smart phone or the tablet people - stop saying they did.

About 90% of the people I know who switched to other phones are back with apple. Its not about checking the box in a feature matrix. First to market doesn't count if it doesn't work (that is another way apple revolutionized business). There is a lot of hype about apple products for sure, but its not all hype. Oh well, as 337 said its wasted time, nobody will be changing their mind because of this edhat thread.

I have had both kinds of smartphones, Android and iPhone, I much prefer the iPhone (which I have now). They both do basically the same thing, so it really comes down to aesthetics. The iPhone just feels better in my hand ... more substantial, smoother lines, etc. I think if people enjoy getting something in their lives that perks them up a bit, then why not. Life is hard enough as it is. Live and let live, I say.

At least some of them and maybe many are planning to try and sell them on CraigsList or eBay. The regulars who hang out on the Flag Forum at CL are already anticipating a huge day of explaining ad nauseam to enraged sellers why their overpriced phones have been flagged off. Though the volunteer helpers are very helpful for the most part it's a rough crowd, and when they get tired of seeing the same thing over and over (and getting abused by those who have been flagged off) they can get cranky.

My wife & I have had all the various types of phones over the past 10 years and hands down, the Apple iPhone is far superior to any others on the market. We pre-ordered the new iPhone 5 (Yep, delivery tomorrow) and will hang onto our one 4S. Next year when a new version is released, we'll get it seeing as our Verizon contract allows for a free upgrade every two years. That way we get the latest for $199. You can keep those Androids & other "wanna be's."

I've got an Android--Samsung Galaxy Note--and I love it. Yet I still think that Steve Jobs was perhaps one of our generation's most profound protagonists. I just think its funny because I remember a time when it was Microsoft/Windows machines that were "king-of-the-hill" and it was me and my Apple products against the entire world of Windows clones. Finally, the innovators get their turn in the sun. This argument/debate/brag proves it. And,obtw, the iPhone is better on every front in every way especially content and iOS is more elegant and easier to use than android because it wasn't invented to compete with anything, it was invented to define.

I need a smartphone that can access my work email. The security on Android OS devices is crap so my IT Dept only allows iPhones and Blackberries on the server which is pretty much the same for any company with highly proprietary information. I'd love to consider and Android phone but there is no point until their security is better.

Most corporations allow a variety of devices and OS's to connect including Android. Android uses the same protocols and connectivity as the iphone does for email.

I'm not a fan of Apple, but just caved and got an iPhone 4 for free for one of my kids as an upgrade on her old non-smart phone via Verizon. Why would anybody buy one for _double_ what was originally paid?? Apple and various service companies are indeed giving them away w the usual contractual provisos.

595 here. I do work for a defense related company though in the commercial division. I am not an IT guy but they said it has to do with "authentication." For many years it was only Blackberry but two or three years ago they allowed iPhones into the mix so long as we passcode lock the phone. I know of one other huge company (one of our clients) who also does defense work that will be supposedly be adding iPhones in the next quarter. Now maybe my IT guys are full of crap but iPhones are still allowed after some sort of high price security consultants came in after a near breach by hackers. In any case, the bottom line is that I need a phone that can access work email and Android OS phones are not on the list. My choice is iPhone or Blackberry and I am sure that we can all agree that that is the easiest choice in the world.
