Oh I'll be there. But not to stand IN the line. I'll be standing just outside the line, smoking my cigarettes and laughing at all the momo sheeple as they choke on my smoke.

I don't understand the waiting in line thing. If there were limited amounts forever and nobody could get one in, like, another seven to ten days, then maybe I could understand it. But it's going to be available to everyone, eventually.

What is so lacking in someone's life that they will line up for a PHONE? Maybe it's fun, if you do it with a group of friends or as a kind of adventure. But the people I've seen lining up always look anxious, frustrated and like they distinctly aren't having fun. I just...I don't get it!

iPhone5 - oh boy wow. Competing Android products have had the same technology for sometime with HD displays - so don't try to sell me on the retina stuff. And 327 is right - just finally getting 4G and turn by turn voice.

Apple did not invent the smart phone or the tablet people - stop saying they did.

Nobody made touchscreen, multi-touch smartphones before Apple though. So there's that. Or 300+ppi screens on said smartphones before Apple.

Anyways. Stupid argument about smartphones. No one's gonna convince anyone of anything.

It's interesting. All the new features it touts, I've had on my last two or three Droids. But I'm sure the iCult members will stand in line for expensive 2009 technology. I understand grandmothers having iPhones but not mainstream folks.

About 90% of the people I know who switched to other phones are back with apple. Its not about checking the box in a feature matrix. First to market doesn't count if it doesn't work (that is another way apple revolutionized business). There is a lot of hype about apple products for sure, but its not all hype. Oh well, as 337 said its wasted time, nobody will be changing their mind because of this edhat thread.

Well you guys must be missing something since they sold 2million iphone 5's in the first 24 hours. I understand if you just don't have the cash, but people that can afford the iphone tend to buy one... I wonder why?

I have had both kinds of smartphones, Android and iPhone, I much prefer the iPhone (which I have now). They both do basically the same thing, so it really comes down to aesthetics. The iPhone just feels better in my hand ... more substantial, smoother lines, etc. I think if people enjoy getting something in their lives that perks them up a bit, then why not. Life is hard enough as it is. Live and let live, I say.

At least some of them and maybe many are planning to try and sell them on CraigsList or eBay. The regulars who hang out on the Flag Forum at CL are already anticipating a huge day of explaining ad nauseam to enraged sellers why their overpriced phones have been flagged off. Though the volunteer helpers are very helpful for the most part it's a rough crowd, and when they get tired of seeing the same thing over and over (and getting abused by those who have been flagged off) they can get cranky.

My wife & I have had all the various types of phones over the past 10 years and hands down, the Apple iPhone is far superior to any others on the market.

We pre-ordered the new iPhone 5 (Yep, delivery tomorrow) and will hang onto our one 4S. Next year when a new version is released, we'll get it seeing as our Verizon contract allows for a free upgrade every two years. That way we get the latest for $199.

You can keep those Androids & other "wanna be's."

Our 2 iPhone 5s will be delivered tomorrow by noon via UPS. We already have buyers for our iPhone 4s for more than we originally paid. Try that with a 2 1/2 year old Android. <:+)

Getting rid of iPhone 4S's will be easy-peasy starting tomorrow.

Have fun with your new 5's!

One of my best buds is there, waiting in line. How cool that she finds it fun to get her hands on the latest and greatest ASAP. You enjoy your perfect wave, another a neighborhood bar, another a hike, others a great sunset. She happens to love playing with the latest technology, and loves the Apple comradery. To each her own.

I've got an Android--Samsung Galaxy Note--and I love it. Yet I still think that Steve Jobs was perhaps one of our generation's most profound protagonists. I'll never forget that I learned of his passing from a notification on my ipad. I don't much care for the Android vs Apple debate, it just seems like rival gangs flashing hand signals.

I just think its funny because I remember a time when it was Microsoft/Windows machines that were "king-of-the-hill" and it was me and my Apple products against the entire world of Windows clones. Finally, the innovators get their turn in the sun. This argument/debate/brag proves it.

And,obtw, the iPhone is better on every front in every way especially content and iOS is more elegant and easier to use than android because it wasn't invented to compete with anything, it was invented to define.

I need a smartphone that can access my work email. The security on Android OS devices is crap so my IT Dept only allows iPhones and Blackberries on the server which is pretty much the same for any company with highly proprietary information. I'd love to consider and Android phone but there is no point until their security is better.

I will not be standing in line today, alas I must work. I do however love my iPhone. I have tried plenty of other phones and the androids are just not for me. I can't wait for Apple to put flash on the darn thing though. I do not understand all of the name calling both ways on this argument. Are people standing in line at amusement parks sheep as well? This is a personal choice paid for by that individual. How can it make another person so angry?

iPhone won't get Flash anymore, especially because Adobe has discontinued Flash development for mobile devices.

So you found people who will pay far far too much for a used phone that they can now buy on the cheap new from Apple? And you're willing to do that? That's right up there with 322318 intentionally endangering people's health.

595 Your IT people are not telling you the truth about the Android OS or you are misunderstanding something. Please explain what is not good about Android security - or how it affects secure email. Most corporations allow a variety of devices and OS's to connect including Android. Android uses the same protocols and connectivity as the iphone does for email.

I'm still amazed that I can carry around a device that I can talk to or text people from ANYWHERE without a cord. I'd rather spend my money on a case of beer every month than on a smartphone and data plan.

I'm not a fan of Apple, but just caved and got an iPhone 4 for free for one of my kids as an upgrade on her old non-smart phone via Verizon.

Why would anybody buy one for _double_ what was originally paid??

Apple and various service companies are indeed giving them away w the usual contractual provisos.

Why does everyone clump all the Android phones into the same category? That is what people use to do with the IBM clones back in the 80s. There ARE differences in features and quality between them.

There is a reason that NOT ONE defense-related business in the WORLD uses the iPhone, or ANY other Apple product for that matter. Security.

Yeah, 827, I use Apple products at home and on the go;
and have forgotten more about technology than you know in your entire life. Stop with the nonsense. Apple is great for certain tasks, not so great for other tasks. Use the "Right tool for the job", that's what I teach.

I am really surprised that Apple dumped Google Maps. What a dumb premature decision. It bothers me that Apple goes so far out of their way to block gmail and other google products from easy interaction with the iPhone. SKYPE also. I love Apple in many ways but they are the new evil empire - with all the sheeple following along.

595 here. I do work for a defense related company though in the commercial division. I am not an IT guy but they said it has to do with "authentication." For many years it was only Blackberry but two or three years ago they allowed iPhones into the mix so long as we passcode lock the phone. I know of one other huge company (one of our clients) who also does defense work that will be supposedly be adding iPhones in the next quarter.

Now maybe my IT guys are full of crap but iPhones are still allowed after some sort of high price security consultants came in after a near breach by hackers. In any case, the bottom line is that I need a phone that can access work email and Android OS phones are not on the list. My choice is iPhone or Blackberry and I am sure that we can all agree that that is the easiest choice in the world.
