I thought it was her. I couldn't say for sure since the vehicle was not registered in her name. But she is the one that went to the liquor store at Cliff and Meggs and crashed into a car in the parking lot. I put it up as a Code Red.

"two glasses of wine" at 10:30 AM and in the parking lot of a liquor store to buy MORE booze? Those are traits seen in alcoholics. I have no personal knowledge of this particular mentioned woman's habits. I'm just glad this drunken driver was sreported to the police. just as I'm glad when SBPD aprehends anyone impaired who gets caught while driving when they shouldn't be.

Sad. Drunk driving should be a much more serious offense. 1yr jail time minimum in my opinion. Get this drunk off the Council.

If you are drinking before 10:30 in the morning, and blow over the limit, and you are going into a liquor store to buy more, you probably are an alcoholic.

Well, at least she admitted it. Came forward publicly with it, instead of trying to come up with an "explanation" like so many other current/former public figures would. It seems she may have an alcohol problem. I'm glad it was a bump into a parked car and not what it could have been. I hope she gets the help it seems she needs.

Perhaps, 164, thats a reflection of the fact that Iya has built a solid record of public service and good will. She was a tough but smart, fair public servant who did her homework and made decisions in the best interest of the public. No one is justifying this DUI/incident- totally wrong- and she has taken complete responsibility- on the air. just wish the best for her...

This is a personal tragedy, and glad to see people are treating it as such. But Iya on city council was the most bloviating spokesperson in politics at the time. In her lovely well-modulated tones, she could fill up air space forever but never actually say a darn thing. It became a joke to watch her lips move, wondering how much airspace she would take up and yet offer not a single hint of substance. Politics in this town is hard. No question about that. it does demand the extraordinary from any normal human being and perhaps this is who Iya learned to cope with the pressures of choosing to be in the public's own gimleted eye.

177, regardless of what our politics are, where we live, what we believe all of us are subject to the frailties of being a human being. Some of us are better at handling them then others. Not knowing Iya's problems I can not specifically address how she is handling them. All I can do is feel sorry for her and saddened by her recent actions.

Tongue in cheek theory: She was on vacation in another country, just got back, very different time zone were she was, to her it was 10:30 at night still. Maybe that explains it?

Every election there are very smart people running. Voters often reject them and listen instead to special interest groups who want dumb ones who carry out their own designs. Think about how you make your decision to vote -- really plot it out sometime to see where pivotal decisions are made in your own mind about who to vote for. Pick a race and a group of candidates you know nothing about, and see how you will eventually cast your informed vote in that particular race. Or a ballot initiative or even as an exercise a race where you don't even vote. What sources of information carry the most weight for you when you make your final choice?

There was nothing in the news article that said or hinted at anything about a liquor store - that's just speculation on someone's part here. And if the car she hit belonged to someone using the hair salon, that's in a completely different parking lot from the liquor store. The hair salon is in the plaza with Rite Aid and Albertson's, and the liquor store is across Miegs from there, near the Rose Cafe.

We don't know if this was a one time thing or something that's been going on for months or years or decades. I would caution everyone to avoid jumping to conclusions. All we know for sure is that an accident happened and luckily nobody got hurt. And for those here who aren't current on our local politics (but are feeling fine about weighing in regardless), you might want to check up on the current city council members. Ms. Falcone is a former member.

Have to agree with 322141. We have so many hard heads, but so few steelhead. I do find it interesting, however, that the EDC's Brian Trautwein spoke to the hopes of many Southern California activists when he predicted that on Mission Creek "we'll restore passage for migrating steelhead and bring this remarkable and resilient species back from the brink of extinction." Brian Trautwein. Hmmmm. Traut - Steelhead. Wein - "under the influence of" Is this a conspiracy? (OK, just kidding. That's actually a "Trusted Wine", which if I were a steelhead, might make me less than trusting at Chuck's Waterfront Grill.)
